Inverse fly-through technique in ultrasound imaging of carotid stenosis.

چکیده
A 58-year-old man presented for re-evaluation of an asymptomatic right-sided carotid stenosis. Besides conventional ultrasound techniques, we could confirm a moderate right internal carotid artery stenosis by the innovative inverse fly-through technique (figure). Regular checkups were initiated. There is growing evidence that 3D ultrasound may provide new possibilities for evaluating carotid disease. With our technique, it is possible to view a carotid stenosis from all imaginable directions (video on theNeurology® Web site at www.neurology.org) and to provide patients with an easy-to-grasp presentation of their carotid stenosis. However, the reliability, validity, and clinical usefulness of the technique will require further study.

Detection of Unstable Carotid Plaque by Tissue Doppler Imaging and Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound in a Patient with Recurrent Amaurosis Fugax
Ultrasound (US) is one of the most important diagnostic tools available for the detection and evaluation of carotid stenosis. The case of a 70-year-old woman with recurrent right-sided amaurosis fugax presented here highlights the way in which tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) and contrast-enhanced US (CEUS) may aid in the diagnosis of carotid plaque vulnerability. Furthermore, the novel inverse fly...

Introduction: Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) is the standard method for detection of carotid artery stenosis. This technique has high radiation dose. With the progress of imaging techniques, noninvasive or minimally invasive methods like the CT angiography, MR angiography and ultrasonography with Doppler or Duplex mode were applicable. This study aimed to evaluate and assesse the results...
متن کاملAdvantages and pitfalls of three-dimensional ultrasound imaging of carotid bifurcation.
OBJECTIVES Several specialists use three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound as adjuvant imaging technique in their clinical practice. It has been applied to study carotid plaque morphology, surface and volume during atherosclerosis progression. Nonetheless, no papers have so far described the use of this technique in conditions different than carotid stenosis, such as bifurcation anatomy changes of th...
متن کاملEvaluating the effect of stenosis increase and pulsatile blood pressure on effective stress distribution in viscoelastic finite element model based on carotid artery ultrasound images
The aim of this study is to evaluate the changes of effective stress distribution in plaque by progressing to the stenosis throat and to assess the pulsatile pulse pressure effect on effective stress of a viscoelastic finite-element model of carotid arteries having less and more than 50% stenosis. In-vivo geometries of the arteries were reconstructed using consecutive transverse ultrasound imag...
متن کاملتاثیر انسداد شریان کاروتید داخلی (ICA) در میزان مرگ ومیر وعوارض بیماران تحت عمل جراحی گرافت شریان کرونری(CABG)
Background and Aim: Stroke is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass (CABG) surgery. There are various mechanisms that can cause prioperative strokes in patients undergoing CABG other than Carotid Artery disease. The goal of this study is to evaluate whether the presence of stenosis internal carotid artery (ICA) influences prioperative stroke...
