Learning environmental clues in the KIV model of the cortico-hippocampal formation

چکیده
11 Previous studies on the KIV model outlined a general architecture of modeling sensory– perceptual–intentional action cycle in the primordial vertebrate forebrain using nonlinear dy13 namical principles. KIV consists of three KIII units representing aperiodic/chaotic dynamics in sensory cortex, hippocampal formation, and midline forebrain, respectively. The sensory cortex 15 has demonstrated excellent performance as a pattern recognition and classi cation device. In this work, the behavior of the hippocampal formation is studied as part of the KIV system. 17 We elaborate a reinforcement algorithm to learn goal-oriented behavior based on global orientation beacons, biased by local sensory information provided by visual or infra-red sensors. We 19 illustrate the operation of the KIV model using the multiple T-maze navigation problem. c © 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V. 21

Learning intentional behavior in the K-model of the amygdala and entorhinal cortex with the cortico-hyppocampal formation
The interaction between entorhinal cortex (EC), amygdala, and hippocampal and cortical areas in vertebrate brains is studied using the dynamical K model approach. Special emphasis is given to the role of EC in decision making under the influence of sensory, orientation, and motivational clues. We introduce a simplified KIV model with positive and negative reinforcement learning in the hippocamp...
متن کاملThymoquinone recovers learning function in a rat model of Alzheimer’s disease
Objective: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by accumulation of amyloid beta in the hippocampus. In recent decades, herbal medicine has been widely used to treat many neurodegenerative disorders,as in comparison to conventional drugs, herbal remedies exert minimal side effects. Here, the effects of thymoquinone, as the main active component of Nigella sativa, on ...
متن کاملAssessment of the role of NMDA receptors located in hippocampal CA1 area on the effects of oral morphine dependency on spatial learning and memory in rat
Introduction: It has been reported that oral morphine dependency facilitated formation of spatial learning and memory. In the present study the role of NMDA receptors located in hippocampal CA1 area of morphine dependent rats was studied. Methods: Male rats were divided into 4 groups. Two cannulae were stereotaxically implanted bilaterally into the hippocampal CA1 area. After 5 days recover...
متن کاملAssessment of the effect of nitric oxide within hippocampal CA1 area on spatial learning and memory in morphine dependent rats
Introduction: There are evidences showing the role of nitric oxide in the opiate reward properties. The role of nitric oxide signaling pathway as an intracellular mechanism on augmentation of long term potentiation in hippocampal CA1 area of rats is also confirmed. It has been also reported that oral morphine dependence facilitates formation of spatial learning and memory via activation of N...
متن کاملP3: Mechanisms of TrkB-Mediated Hippocampal Long-Term Potentiation in Learning and Memory
Long-term potentiation (LTP) is a process that certain types of synaptic stimulation lead to a long-lasting enhancement in the strength of synaptic transmission. Studies in recent years indicate the importance of molecular pathways in the development of memory and learning. Tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) is a member of the neurotrophin receptor tyrosine kinase family, that its ligand is b...
