چکیده

We present new edge splitting-off results maintaining all-pairs edge-connectivities of an undirected graph. We first give an alternate proof of Mader’s theorem, and use it to obtain a deterministic Õ(m + rmax · n2)-time complete edge splitting-off algorithm for unweighted graphs, where rmax denotes the maximum edge-connectivity requirement. This improves upon the best known algorithm by Gabow by a factor of Ω̃(n). We then prove a new structural property, and use it to further speed up the algorithm to obtain a randomized Õ(m+ rmax ·n)-time algorithm. These edge splitting-off algorithms can be used directly to speed up various graph algorithms.

Efficient Algorithm for Computing All Low s-t Edge Connectivities in Directed Graphs

Given a directed graph with n nodes andm edges, the (strong) edge connectivity λ(u, v) between two nodes u and v is the minimum number of edges whose deletion makes u and v not strongly connected. The problem of computing the edge connectivities between all pairs of nodes of a directed graph can be done in O(m) time by Cheung, Lau and Leung (FOCS 2011), where ω is the matrix multiplication fact...

Splitting Off Edges within a Specified Subset Preserving the Edge-Connectivity of the Graph

Splitting off a pair su; sv of edges in a graph G means the operation that deletes su and sv and adds a new edge uv. Given a graph G = (V + s;E) which is k-edge-connected (k 2) between vertices of V and a specified subset R V , first we consider the problem of finding a longest possible sequence of disjoint pairs (splittings) of edges sx; sy, x; y 2 R which can be split off preserving k-edge-co...

Graph Connectivity and Network Coding LEUNG, Kai Man Master of Philosophy Department of Computer Science and Engineering The Chinese University of Hong Kong 2011 In this thesis we present a new algebraic formulation to compute edge connectivities in a directed graph, using the ideas developed in network coding. This reduces the problem of computing edge connectivities to solving systems of line...

Efficient algorithms for computing all low s-t edge connectivities and related problems

Given an undirected unweighted graph G = (V, E) and an integer k ≥ 1, we consider the problem of computing the edge connectivities of all those (s, t) vertex pairs, whose edge connectivity is at most k. We present an algorithm with expected running time Õ(m + nk) for this problem, where |V | = n and |E| = m. Our output is a weighted tree T whose nodes are the sets V1, V2, . . . , V` of a partit...
