Meshes Preserving Minimum Feature Size

چکیده
The minimum feature size of a planar straight-line graph is the minimum distance between a vertex and a nonincident edge. When a polygon is partitioned into a mesh, the degradation is the ratio of original to final minimum feature size. We show that some planar straight-line graphs cannot be triangulated with constant degradation, even with an unbounded number of Steiner points and triangles. This result answers a 14-year-old open problem by Bern, Dobkin, and Eppstein. For an n-vertex input, we obtain matching worst-case lower and upper bounds on degradation of Θ(lgn). Our upper bound comes from a new meshing algorithm that uses O(n) triangles and O(n) Steiner points. If we allow triangles to have Steiner points along their sides, a construction is presented that achieves O(1) degradation.

Feature-preserving Direct Blue Noise Sampling for Surface Meshes
We present a new direct Poisson disk sampling for surface meshes. Our objective is to sample triangular meshes, while satisfying good blue noise properties, but also preserving features. Our method combines a feature detection technique based on vertex curvature, and geodesic-based dart throwing. Our method is fast, automatic, and experimental results prove that our method is well-suited to CAD...
متن کاملFeature-Preserving Anisotropic Smoothing for Meshes with Large-Scale Noise
This paper presents a smoothing method which preserves features for a triangular mesh even when large-scale noise are included because of measurement errors. First, scale-dependent discrete Laplacian is introduced along with boundary Laplacian to deal with an open mesh. Then, a method for feature detection which uses the values by these Laplacians is constructed. Furthermore, anisotropic diffus...
متن کاملAn Efficient Mesh Simplification Method with Feature Detection for Unstructured Meshes and Web Graphics
This paper presents an efficient method of mesh simplification for geometric 3D models. The transmission of 3D models on the Internet is an important task. The data size of a 3D model is usually large to enable more detail to be represented. Hence, it is necessary to represent the 3D model while keeping the data size small and preserving its features, even if the meshes that constitute the mode...

متن کاملCombining Size-Preserving and Smoothing Procedures for Adaptive Quadrilateral Mesh Generation
It is well known that the variations of the element size have to be controlled in order to generate a high-quality mesh. Hence, several techniques have been developed to limit the gradient of the element size. However, the obtained discretizations do not always reproduce the prescribed size function. This is of the major importance for quadrilateral meshes, since they are much more constrained ...
