Theorizing On Secondary Design

چکیده

The observation that people tailor information systems in the context of use presents a dilemma to the current conceptualization of Design Science Research. In order to explain and support secondary design, we need to better understand the process by which such design-in-use occurs. This research presents the kernel theories, methodological approach, and preliminary findings through which secondary design can be observed and illustrated. By viewing secondary design as a set of language actions, we reveal an iterative process in which people engage active and reflective environments embedded in information systems. Identification of this process contributes a mid-level theory of secondary design which can be built upon to support the continued investigation of tailorable technologies.
