A Survey and Analysis of Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph Spectra of T Tauri Stars in Taurus
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present mid-infrared spectra of T Tauri stars in the Taurus star-forming region obtained with the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS). For the first time, the 5–36 μm spectra of a large sample of T Tauri stars belonging to the same star-forming region is studied, revealing details of the midinfrared excess due to dust in circumstellar disks. We analyze common features and differences in the mid-IR spectra based on disk structure, dust grain properties, and the presence of companions. Our analysis encompasses spectral energy distributions from the optical to the far-infrared, a morphological sequence based on the IRS spectra, and spectral indices in IRS wave bands representative of continuum emission. By comparing the observed spectra to a grid of accretion disk models, we infer some basic disk properties for our sample of T Tauri stars, and find additional evidence for dust settling. Disk Evolution in the Three Nearby Star-forming Regions of Taurus, Chamaeleon, and Ophiuchus
We analyze samples of Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) spectra of T Tauri stars in the Ophiuchus, Taurus, and Chamaeleon I star-forming regions, whose median ages lie in the < 1 to 2 Myr range. The median mid-infrared spectra of objects in these three regions are similar in shape, suggesting, on average, similar disk structures. When normalized to the same stellar luminosity, the medians fol...
متن کاملSpitzer Irs Spectra and Envelope Models of Class I Protostars in Taurus
We present Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph spectra of 28 Class I protostars in the Taurus star-forming region. The 5 to 36 μm spectra reveal excess emission from the inner regions of the envelope and accretion disk surrounding these predecessors of low-mass stars, as well as absorption features due to silicates and ices. Together with shorterand longer-wavelength data from the literature, we cons...
متن کاملX-rays from young stars – a summary of highlights from the XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST)
The XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST) is a survey of the nearest large star-forming region, the Taurus Molecular Cloud (TMC), making use of all instruments on board the XMM-Newton X-ray observatory. The survey, presently still growing, has provided unprecedented spectroscopic results from nearly every observed T Tauri star, and from ≈50% of the studied brown dwarfs...
متن کاملVery Low Mass Stars and Brown Dwarfs in Taurus-Auriga
We present high resolution optical spectra obtained with the HIRES spectrograph on the W. M. Keck I telescope of seven low mass T Tauri stars and brown dwarfs (LMTTs) in Taurus-Auriga. The observed Li I 6708 Å absorption, low surface gravity signatures, and radial velocities confirm that all are members of the Taurus star forming region; no new spectroscopic binaries are identified. Four of the...
متن کاملOn the Evolutionary Status of Class I Stars and Herbig-Haro Energy Sources in Taurus-Auriga
We present high resolution (R ∼ 34,000) optical (6330 8750 Å) spectra obtained with the HIRES spectrograph on the W. M. Keck I telescope of stars in Taurus-Auriga whose circumstellar environment suggests that they are less evolved than optically revealed T Tauri stars. Many of the stars are seen only via scattered light. The sample includes 15 Class I stars and all Class II stars that power Her...
