چکیده
This publication has been reviewed by: Dr. Jeff Stringer, Un. of Kentucky; Dr. George Parker, Purdue University; Dr. Burnell Fischer, IDNR Division of Forestry; Dr. John Kershaw, Un. of New Brunswick; Mr. Ron Rathfon, Purdue University Trees and shrubs often grow too large for the available space in urban areas. In the past, costly mechanical trimming was the sole method available to arborists and utility foresters to reduce tree and shrub size. Consequently, chemical growth retardants were developed as an inexpensive approach to limit size and the growth rate of trees and, at the same time, to enhance their tolerance to the harsh environmental conditions of urban areas.

Estimating Height and Diameter Growth of Some Street Trees in Urban Green Spaces
Estimating urban trees growth, especially tree height is very important in urban landscape management. The aim of the study was to predict of tree height base on tree diameter. To achieve this goal, 921 trees from five species were measured in five areas of Mashhad city in 2014. The evaluated trees were ash tree (Fraxinus species), plane tree (Platanus hybrida), white mulberry (Morus alba), ail...
متن کاملAnalyzing the efficacy of subtropical urban forests in offsetting carbon emissions from cities
Urban forest management and policies have been promoted as a tool to mitigate carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This study used existing CO2 reduction measures from subtropical Miami-Dade and Gainesville, USA and modeled carbon storage and sequestration by trees to analyze policies that use urban forests to offset carbon emissions. Field data were analyzed, modeled, and spatially analyzed to comp...

Plane tree is one of the important trees cultivated in urban landscapes of Iran and often suffers from different nutritional issues including deficiency and toxicity of mineral nutrients. Mycorrhizal fungi have been introduced to increase growth and quality of plants in horticulture. To study the combined effect of two mycorrhizal fungi (G. mosseae and G. intraradices) on plane trees, an experi...
متن کاملModeling Urban Growth Dynamics using Cellular Automata and GIS
Managing and modelling urban growth is a multi-faceted problem. Cities are now recognised as complex systems through which non-linear and dynamic processes, emergence and self-organisation occur. The design of a system that can handle these complexities is a challenging prospect. This paper presents an urban planning tool for the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. At the core of the system is a Fuzz...

Guangzhou city in South China has experienced an accelerated urban development since the 1980s. This paper examines the impact of the urban development on urban heat islands through a historical analysis of urban-rural air temperature differences. Remote sensing techniques were applied to derive information on land use/cover and land surface temperatures and to assess the thermal response patte...
