Managing Merged Data by Vague Functional Dependencies

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a new similarity measure between vague sets and apply vague logic in a relational database environment with the objective of capturing the vagueness of the data. By introducing a new vague Similar Equality (SEQ) for comparing data values, we first generalize the classical Functional Dependencies (FDs) into Vague Functional Dependencies (VFDs). We then present a set of sound and complete inference rules. Finally, we study the validation process of VFDs by examining the satisfaction degree of VFDs, and the merge-union and merge-intersection on vague relations.

Handling Inconsistency of Vague Relations with Functional Dependencies
Vague information is common in many database applications due to internet-scale data dissemination, such as those data arising from sensor networks and mobile communications. We have formalized the notion of a vague relation in order to model vague data in our previous work. In this paper, we utilize Functional Dependencies (FDs), which are the most fundamental integrity constraints that arise ...
متن کاملMaintaining consistency of vague databases using data dependencies
Vague information is common in many database applications due to intensive data dissemination arising from different pervasive computing sources, such as the high volume data obtained from sensor networks and mobile communications. In this paper, we utilize functional dependencies (FDs) and inclusion dependencies (INDs), which are the most fundamental integrity constraints that arise in practic...
متن کاملMining Full Functional Dependency to Answer Null Queries and Reduce Imprecise Information Based on Fuzzy Object Oriented Databases
Discovery of Full functional dependencies from relations has been identified as an important database analysis technique. In order to deal with information inexactness, fuzzy techniques have extensively been integrated with different database models and theories. However, the information is often vague or ambiguous and very difficult to represent in implementing the application software. This p...
متن کاملPreference Functional Dependencies for Managing Choices
The notion of user preference in database modeling has recently received much attention in advanced applications, such as personalization of e-services, since it captures the human wishes on querying and managing data. The paradigm of preference-driven choices in the real world requires new semantic constraints in modelling. In this paper, we assume preference constraints can be defined over da...
متن کاملOn Desirable Semantics of Functional Dependencies over Databases with Incomplete Information
Codd’s relational model describes just one possible world. To better cope with incomplete information, extended database models allow several possible worlds. Vague tables are one such convenient extended model where attributes accept sets of possible values (e.g., the manager is either Jill or Bob). However, conceptual database design in such cases remains an open problem. In particular, there...
