چکیده

The Bright Pixel Atmospheric Correction (BPAC) is the MERIS operational algorithm for precorrecting the residual marine signal in the near infrared prior to the Clear water atmospheric correction. It is an essential step in the mission for computing Level 2 products on Case 2 waters. It is also always applied on Case 1 waters. The method is based on an iterative coupling between a simplified atmospheric correction and a bio-optical model of backscattering of suspended matter at 709, 779 and 865 nm. We present the status on several practical issues recently raised on the implementation and validation of the algorithm: a) Does the algorithm always converge to a solution ? b) How can we explain the very high value of residual marine signal over clear waters ? c) What is the coherence between the BPAC output and the atmospheric correction, in particular would a full coupling between the Clear water algorithm and the bio-optical model improve the final water-leaving reflectance in the visible? Analyse in conducted theoretically, on MERIS scenes and on the MERMAID matchup database. The analysis brings also to light a problem of calibration in the NIR bands. We propose to change the aerosol reflectance extrapolation, as well as an adjustment at 865 nm, which should be further studied in coherence with the current development of MERIS vicarious adjustment.

Light modulation of cellular cAMP by a small bacterial photoactivated adenylyl cyclase, bPAC, of the soil bacterium Beggiatoa.

The recent success of channelrhodopsin in optogenetics has also caused increasing interest in enzymes that are directly activated by light. We have identified in the genome of the bacterium Beggiatoa a DNA sequence encoding an adenylyl cyclase directly linked to a BLUF (blue light receptor using FAD) type light sensor domain. In Escherichia coli and Xenopus oocytes, this photoactivated adenylyl...

A Study of Removing SUVA and Trihalomethanes by Biological Activated Carbon

SUVA (equivalent to UV254/DOC) value in raw water is a precursor for the formation of trihalomethane during chlorination at a water treatment plant. This study collected rapidly filtered water from an advanced water treatment plant for use in experiments on raw water. The removal rate of treating the trihalomethanes formation potential (THMFP) was conducted by using a biological activated carbo...

Controlling fertilization and cAMP signaling in sperm by optogenetics

Optogenetics is a powerful technique to control cellular activity by light. The light-gated Channelrhodopsin has been widely used to study and manipulate neuronal activity in vivo, whereas optogenetic control of second messengers in vivo has not been examined in depth. In this study, we present a transgenic mouse model expressing a photoactivated adenylyl cyclase (bPAC) in sperm. In transgenic ...

Systematic Mutagenesis of Genes Encoding Predicted Autotransported Proteins of Burkholderia pseudomallei Identifies Factors Mediating Virulence in Mice, Net Intracellular Replication and a Novel Protein Conferring Serum Resistance

Burkholderia pseudomallei is the causative agent of the severe tropical disease melioidosis, which commonly presents as sepsis. The B. pseudomallei K96243 genome encodes eleven predicted autotransporters, a diverse family of secreted and outer membrane proteins often associated with virulence. In a systematic study of these autotransporters, we constructed insertion mutants in each gene predict...
