Initial conditions for disc galaxies

چکیده
We present a general recipe for constructing N-body realizations of galaxies comprised of near-spherical and disc components. First, an exact spherical distribution function for the spheroids (halo & bulge) is determined, such that it is in equilibrium with the gravitational monopole of the disc components. Second, an N-body realisation of this model is adapted to the full disc potential by growing the latter adiabatically from its monopole. Finally, the disc is sampled with particles drawn from an appropriate distribution function, avoiding localMaxwellian approximations. We performed test simulations and find that the halo and bulge radial density profile very closely match their target model, while they become slightly oblate due to the added disc gravity. Our findings suggest that vertical thickening of the initially thin disc is caused predominantly by spiral and bar instabilities, which also result in a radial re-distribution of matter, rather than scattering off interloping massive halo particles.

A simple model for the dust media describing evolution of the system like spiral galaxy is considered. In contrast to previous considerations we show that the initial density fold should be quasi-one-dimensional (bar-like) instead of disc-like. The disc component of the galaxies appears only during the evolution. The model naturally reproduces some essential features of the galaxies. In particu...
متن کاملN-body Simulations of Interacting Disc Galaxies
Disc galaxies can be substantially modified by close encounters and mergers, since their discs are very responsive components. Close interactions can be held responsible for the formation of bridges and tails, as well as for the formation of some bars, asymmetries and grand design spirals. Bound clumps can form in the tails, due to self-gravity, and could evolve to dwarf galaxies. Off-centering...
متن کاملScaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...
متن کاملThe Formation of Disc Galaxies
We investigate the influence of the cooling epoch on the formation of galaxies in a cold dark matter dominated universe. Isolated haloes, with circular speeds typical of spiral galaxies, have been selected from a low resolution numerical simulation for re-simulation at higher resolution. Initial conditions for each halo consist of a high resolution region containing dark matter and gas, and a n...
متن کاملEvaluation of New MOND Interpolating Function with Rotation Curves of Galaxies
The rotation curves of a sample of 46 low- and high-surface brightness galaxies are considered in the context of Milgrom's modi_ed dynamics (MOND) to test a new interpolating function proposed by Zhao et al. (2010) [1] and compare with the results of simple interpolating function. The predicted rotation curves are calculated from the total baryonic matter based on the B-band surface photometry,...
