چکیده

Nitrogen (N) requirements of rice crop are met from both the soil and fertilizers. Because of acute N deficiency in most rice soils, fertilizer N must be applied to meet the crop demand. N fertilizer applied to rice crops is partially lost through different mechanisms, including ammonia volatilization, denitrification, and leaching. These losses may cause environmental problems such as polluting the atmosphere, aquatic systems, and groundwater. These problems cannot be alleviated completely. However, they can be reduced a considerable extent by various techniques. Research has been conducted around the world to minimize N fertilizer losses. This paper reviews this information on N fertilizer losses, indicating management practices for minimizing these losses from the soil-water system.

Evaluation of water pollution from rice cultivation using Nitrogen fertilizer in North of Iran

The increase of nitrite and nitrate concentrations in surface and groundwater is a greatconcern in our lives nowadays. Nitrate and nitrite in drinking water normally originate fromagricultural operation and chemical fertilizers. Therefore, the present study aims toinvestigate the effect of nitrogen fertilizers used in rice cultivation and levels of nitrate andnitrite in farm wastewater and wate...

Effect of nitrogen supplying sources on nitrogen use efficiency in rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Shiroudi)

The use of nitrogen fertilizer has a key role in enhancing agricultural productivity worldwide. In order to achieve an effective approach to enhance nitrogen use efficiency in rice, a field experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications and 13 treatments on Shiroudi, a high yielding rice cultivar in Rice Research Institute of Iran (Amol) in 2015 and 2016....

Assessment of Ammonia Volatilization Losses and Nitrogen Utilization during the Rice Growing Season in Alkaline Salt-Affected Soils

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of different fertilizer types and application rates on ammonia volatilization loss and to explore nitrogen distribution and nitrogen use efficiency using the 15N isotope tracing technique in different alkaline salt-affected conditions in the Songnen Plain, Northeast China. The results showed a decreasing trend in ammonia volatilization l...

Non-point source pollution in Indian agriculture: Estimation of nitrogen losses from rice crop using remote sensing and GIS

The paper presents a detailed understanding of nitrogenous fertilizer use in Indian agriculture and estimation of seasonal nitrogen loosses from rice crop in Indo-Gangetic plain region, the ‘food bowl’ of the Indian sub-continent. An integrated methodology was developed for quantification of different forms of nitrogen losses from rice crop using remote sensing derived inputs, field data of fer...

Nitrogen Fertilizer by Two Rice Cultivars Grown on an Arkansas Clay Soil

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown on a clay soil in a direct-seeded, delayed-flood system as used in the southern U.S. requires 30 to 60 lb/acre more nitrogen (N) fertilizer to achieve maximal grain yields compared to rice grown on silt loam soils. Seasonal N fertilizer accumulation studies are almost non-existent for rice grown on clay soils. Therefore, a two-year field study was conducted to evalu...
