JOINT CCP4 AND ESF-EACBM NEWSLETTER ON PROTEIN CRYSTALLOGRAPHY An informal Newsletter associated with the BBSRC Collaborative Computational Project No. 4 on Protein Crystallography and the ESF Network of the European Association of the Crystallography of Biological Macromolecules
Ab initio phasing of ribosomal particles at very low resolution was attempted with several methods based on the amplitude information from native crystals. Some of these methods used simple topological constraints or information about the envelope shape obtained from electron microscopic reconstruction in addition. This paper reviews the approaches used and compares the results obtained for low...
متن کاملAn overview of the CCP4 project in protein crystallography: an example of a collaborative project.
The Collaborative Computational Project Number 4 (CCP4) was established in 1979 to promote collaboration between UK groups writing software for protein crystallography. CCP4 now distributes a large software suite and is active in developing new software. Equally importantly, CCP4 provides a focus for the whole protein crystallography community via meetings, workshops, email lists and various pu...
متن کاملThe new CCP4 Coordinate Library as a toolkit for the design of coordinate-related applications in protein crystallography.
The new CCP4 Coordinate Library is a development aiming to provide a common layer of coordinate-related functionality to the existing applications in the CCP4 suite, as well as a variety of tools that can simplify the design of new applications where they relate to atomic coordinates. The Library comprises a wide spectrum of useful functions, ranging from parsing coordinate formats and elementa...
متن کاملSubstructure search procedures for macromolecular structures.
This paper accompanies a lecture given at the 2003 CCP4 Study Weekend on experimental phasing. The first part is an overview of the fundamentals of Patterson methods and direct methods with the audience of the CCP4 Study Weekend in mind. In the second part, a new hybrid substructure search is outlined.
متن کاملA graphical user interface to the CCP4 program suite.
CCP4i is a graphical user interface that makes running programs from the CCP4 suite simpler and quicker. It is particularly directed at inexperienced users and tightly linked to introductory and scientific documentation. It also provides a simple project-management system and visualization tools. The system is readily extensible and not specific to CCP4 software.
