The Effects of Transient Rheology on the Interpretation of Lower Mantle Viscosity

چکیده
We have reexamined the role played by transient rheology in the interpretation of mantle viscosity. This investigation has been carried out by comparing the amplitude responses with the data of secular variation of J2, the relative sea-level histories at sites well within the ice margins and at the ice margin like the city of Boston. A linear Burgers' body theology has been assumed in the lower mantle. The data near the edge of the ice load proves most sensitive to the transient viscosity structure. The non-monotonic behavior of sea-level data near Boston can be explained both by a steady-state lower mantle viscosity of 10=P with a thick lithosphere and also by a transient lower mantle theology but with a thin lithosphere. The longterm viscosity of the lower mantle in this second model has a steady-state value of around 5x 10•3P.

Comparative Simulation Study of Vacancy Diffusion in MgO and MgSiO3 in Very High Pressures
MD simulations with pairwise potential on MgO and MgSiO3 vacancies pair were conducted to obtain the Newtonian viscosity of lower mantle. The results of MgO are such that the viscosity of the upper half portion in the lower mantle shows uniform structure but in the lower half it rapidly decreases to the core mantle boundary by two order of magnitude. On the other hand, the viscosity of MgSiO3 p...

This paper presents the effect of high viscosity oil and two-phase foamy-oil flow on the performance of a single stage centrifugal pump. As a part of this, the applicability of a pipe viscometer to determine the foamy oil viscosity is investigated. Unlike previous studies, a sealed fluid tank is used in a closed flow loop to allow conditioning the two-phase mixture to create foamy-oil. Furtherm...

S U M M A R Y Global circulation models are analysed using a temperature and strain-rate dependent rheology in order to refine previous estimates of the nature of mantle flow and plate driving forces. Based on temperature inferred from a tectonic model and seismic tomography, the suboceanic viscosity is lower than underneath continents by ∼ one order of magnitude. If net-rotations of the lithos...

Viscosity is one of the important parameters in design and production of composite solid propellants. Propellants with low end of mix (EoM) viscosity and longer pot-life have suitable condition for casting process. Several factors control the rheology behavior of propellants. In some cases, it may be necessary to apply some additives in order to optimize the rheology of the formulation. In this...
