The -model: a Uniied Communication Cost Model

A generalized communication cost model is presented. The-model incorporates parameters that reeect empirical performance studies of various communication operations. This uniied framework allows quantitative comparison of diierent network architectures, as well as diierent communication algorithms executed on the same network architecture. Moreover, the model is general enough to accommodate both point-to-point and collective communication. This paper introduces the-model and its primary characterization method, the-plot. Application of the model is demonstrated through evaluation of point-to-point and collective operations on various platforms and system conngurations.
