Nondestructive Evaluation Courses for Undergraduate Engineering and Engineering Technology Students
نویسندگان
چکیده
Two nondestructive evaluation (NDE) laboratory-based courses were developed for Engineering and Engineering Technology (ET) students of Drexel University. The ultrasound NDE laboratory allows for participation in laboratory activities in two modes: the traditional face-to-face classroom mode for students on Drexel’s campus, and a real-time, Internet-based mode for those at remote locations. During the laboratory sessions, students are introduced to tools, methodologies, and techniques utilized by NDE specialists in real-world applications, including calibration and inspection using latest ultrasonic testing instrumentation. The acoustic emission (AE) laboratory procedures are currently developed for face-to-face instruction. Specifically, the course presents principles of AE Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials combining hands-on laboratory experience with lectures. The students learn the physical principles of acoustic emission generation, propagation and detection of acoustical waves in engineering materials and structures, including the underlying science of material deformation, crack growth and failure. Practical applications in various industries are described.

متن کاملProject and Evaluation of Courses in the Quality and Productivity Management Area in the Undergraduate Programs of Engineering
The importance of Quality and Productivity nowadays has raised much discussion over their inclusion in curricula of undergraduate programs of engineering as well as how this is to be done. Such discussions are focused mainly on two basic aspects, namely, how the course is taught and how contents are selected in order to make up course syllabuses. Based on a series of experiences being carried o...
