Adaptive Multiprecision Path Tracking
نویسندگان
چکیده
This article treats numerical methods for tracking an implicitly defined path. The numerical precision required to successfully track such a path is difficult to predict a priori, and indeed, it may change dramatically through the course of the path. In current practice, one must either choose a conservatively large numerical precision at the outset or re-run paths multiple times in successively higher precision until success is achieved. To avoid unnecessary computational cost, it would be preferable to adaptively adjust the precision as the tracking proceeds in response to the local conditioning of the path. We present an algorithm that can be set to either reactively adjust precision in response to step failure or proactively set the precision using error estimates. We then test the relative merits of reactive and proactive adaptation on several examples arising as homotopies for solving systems of polynomial equations. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification. Stepsize control for adaptive multiprecision path tracking
Numerical difficulties encountered when following paths using methods such as homotopy continuation may be overcome by combining adaptive stepsize and adaptive multiprecision. In the paper Adaptive multiprecision path tracking [1], precision and stepsize are adapted separately. This can lead to suboptimal performance and even failure in certain circumstances. This paper presents a strategy for ...
متن کاملStepsize control for path tracking
When numerically tracking implicitly-defined paths, such as is required for homotopy continuation methods, efficiency and reliability are enhanced by using adaptive stepsize and adaptive multiprecision methods. Both efficiency and reliability can be further improved by adapting precision and stepsize simultaneously. This paper presents a strategy for adjusting precision and stepsize together to...
متن کاملAdaptive Sliding Mode Tracking Control of Mobile Robot in Dynamic Environment Using Artificial Potential Fields
Solution to the safe and collision-free trajectory of the wheeled mobile robot in cluttered environments containing the static and/or dynamic obstacle has become a very popular and challenging research topic in the last decade. Notwithstanding of the amount of publications dealing with the different aspects of this field, the ongoing efforts to address the more effective and creative methods is...
متن کاملAdaptive fuzzy sliding mode and indirect radial-basis-function neural network controller for trajectory tracking control of a car-like robot
The ever-growing use of various vehicles for transportation, on the one hand, and the statistics ofsoaring road accidents resulting from human error, on the other hand, reminds us of the necessity toconduct more extensive research on the design, manufacturing and control of driver-less intelligentvehicles. For the automatic control of an autonomous vehicle, we need its dynamic...
متن کاملQuality Up in Polynomial Homotopy Continuation by Multithreaded Path Tracking
Speedup measures how much faster we can solve the same problem using many cores. If we can afford to keep the execution time fixed, then quality up measures how much better the solution will be computed using many cores. In this paper we describe our multithreaded implementation to track one solution path defined by a polynomial homotopy. Limiting quality to accuracy and confusing accuracy with...
