چکیده
The aim of this work is to introduce a methodology to study the stent expansion and the subsequent deformation of the arterial wall towards the outside direction in order arterial lesion to be rehabilitated and blood flow to be restored. More specifically, a coronary artery and the plaque are reconstructed using intravascular ultrasound and biplane angiography. The finite element method is used for the modeling of the interaction between the stent, balloon, arterial wall and plaque. Appropriate material properties and boundary conditions are applied in order to represent the realistic behavior of each component. We observe that stresses are increased at the region of the first contact between the stent and the wall, which may be considered crucial for plaque rupture. Furthermore, the average calculated stress on the plaque is higher than the average stress on the arterial wall. Thus, stent positioning and deployment depends on a considerable degree on the plaque properties rather than the general arterial geometry. Results indicate that numerical modeling can provide a prediction of the arterial behavior during stent implantation. Keywords— Stent, Human artery, Atherosclerosis, Finite el-

Hemodynamic Changes in Coronary Artery after Stent Implantation Based on Patient-specific Model
Intravascular stents are tubular structures placed into stenotic artery to expand the inside passage and improve blood flow. The mechanical factors affect the restenosis after stenting and image-based simulation has become a popular tool for acquiring information. The aim of this study was to demonstrate quantitatively and qualitatively the hemodynamic changes in coronary artery after stent imp...
متن کاملHemodynamics in Transplant Renal Artery Stenosis and its Alteration after Stent Implantation Based on a Patient-specific Computational Fluid Dynamics Model
BACKGROUND Accumulating studies on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) support the involvement of hemodynamic factors in artery stenosis. Based on a patient-specific CFD model, the present study aimed to investigate the hemodynamic characteristics of transplant renal artery stenosis (TRAS) and its alteration after stent treatment. METHODS Computed tomography angiography (CTA) data of kidney tr...
متن کاملApplication of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography in a follow-up evaluation after coronary stent implantation: A Chinese clinical study
Background: This study assessed the application value of 64-slice spiral computed tomography angiography (CTA) in a follow-up evaluation of patients receiving coronary stent implantation. Materials and Methods: A total of 468 patients who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) at our hospital between January 2013 and October 2016 were selected for this study. Coronary angiography an...
متن کاملifferential localisation of the renin–angiotensin system in de-novo lesions and in-stent restenotic lesions in in-vivo human coronary arteries
Objective: Different components of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS) have been demonstrated in atherosclerotic plaques. However, the involvement of the RAS in in-stent restenosis is not clear. We studied the differential immunolocalisation of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor in de-novo stenotic lesions and in-stent restenotic lesions in human cor...
متن کاملA novel application of the culotte stent technique to bail out a jailed common iliac artery
Implanting a self-expandable stent at the ostium of the common iliac artery (CIA) may lead to coverage of the orifice of the contralateral CIA. Here, we describe a novel application of the culotte stent technique using a balloon-expandable stent to bail out an ostial stenotic legion of a jailed CIA due to prior self-expandable stent placement. The bilateral CIAs were revascularized by culotte s...
