Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) caused by Echinococcus multilocularis can infect humans as a dead-end host. They matured in canid’s intestine (e.g. foxes, jackals, wolves, dogs, cats, etc.). AE is seen across the world. It has a high prevalence in the central and northern parts of Europe, North America and Asia. The prevalence of AE was low in the past, even in hyper endemic regions. But in ...

A 37-year-old Tibetan shepherdess presented with headache and weakness of the lower limbs for 10 months. Examination disclosed a positive straight-leg-raising test. Neuroimaging showed a heterogeneous mass in the left temporal lobe (figure 1) and an intradural mass in the lumbosacral canal with L4 vertebral body destruction (figure 2). Chest and abdominal CT scans were negative. Two operations ...

We present a case of cerebral infestation by Echinococcosis multilocularis mimicking an infiltrative primary brain tumor. A heavily calcified mass invading the midbrain enhanced in a cauliflower-like fashion with small peripheral nodules present on MR imaging. Perfusion-weighted MR imaging revealed low relative cerebral blood volume within the calcified lesion and peripheral hyperemia. Single-v...
