Lumbar Segmental Instability and Deformity
نویسنده
چکیده
Lumbar spine instability develops as a result of a gradual degenerative process. Segmental instability causes chronic low back pain and decreases the quality of life of the patient. The deformity that develops secondary to lumbar instability is seen as coronal and sagittal imbalance. The diagnosis is made with the radiological and clinical findings. Surgery and stabilization is necessary for those patients when conservative treatment modalities fail. KeywoRds: Deformity, Segmental instability, Instrumentation

Introduction: Lumbar segmental instability is one of the subgroups of non specific chronic low back pain and it seems that 30-40% of patients with LBP suffer from lumbar segmental instability. Pain intensity, functional disability and reduced muscle endurance are common in such patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of stabilization exercise on pain, functional disability...
متن کاملTreatment of 44 Cases With Lumbar Spine Stenosis and Degenerative Instability: Outcomes of Surgical Intervention
Background and Aim: Degenerative lumbar spine disease can lead to lumbar spine instability. The patients can present with Low Back Pain (LBP), radicular pain, and motor and sensory dysfunction. Age >50, female sex and pregnancies are among prevalent risk factors. The degeneration process usually starts from the intervertebral discs progressing to involve facet joints, ligaments, and vertebral b...

The clinical efficacy of reduction and fusion surgery and the suitable range of fusion-segment were evaluated in 12 pediatric patients treated for high-grade spondylolisthesis. Pre/post-operative clinical and radiological assessments were analyzed. A transient L5 nerve root paralysis was observed in one patient with L5 spondylolisthesis. No degenerative spondylolisthesis or adjacent segmental i...
متن کاملInfluence of core stability exercise on lumbar vertebral instability in patients presented with chronic low back pain: A randomized clinical trial
Background: Excessive lumbar vertebrae translation and rotation in sagittal plane has been attributed as an associated factor of lumbar segmental instability (LSI) and low back pain (LBP). Reduction of these abnormalities improves back pain. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of core stability exercise on the translation and rotation of lumbar vertebrae in sagittal plan...

STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the segmental instability of wedging segments using dynamic films and the impact of osteophyte formation on segmental motion in degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Evaluation of segmental instability in DLS is essential for spinal surgery to make the decision "fusion or not fusion." Some previous studies...
