Electromagnetic resonances in individual and coupled split-ring resonators

چکیده
We study experimentally and numerically the electromagnetic resonances in split ring resonators ~SRRs!, around 1 GHz. For an individual SRR, we show that both electric and magnetic fields can induce resonances, the magnetic one being the strongest. The utilization of such resonant structures as efficient microwave filter is also demonstrated. The coupling between two or more SRRs can be quite complex and strongly depends on their geometrical arrangement. For small separation distances, very strong coupling, leading to sharp resonances with high quality factors are observed. In that case a magnetic field circulation which connects neighboring elements is established. The practical implications of these results for the fabrication of a left-handed metamaterial are discussed. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1497452#

Coupling effects in low-symmetry planar split-ring resonator arrays.
We introduce a particular low-symmetry (point group of unit cell C(1)) planar periodic arrangement of magnetic split-ring resonators that acts as an effective optical wave plate. We show that this behavior specifically results from the in-plane interactions among the individual split-ring resonators. Measured normal-incidence transmittance and conversion spectra of gold-based samples fabricated...
متن کاملFano resonances in THz metamaterials composed of continuous metallic wires and split ring resonators.
We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that Fano resonances can be obtained in terahertz metamaterials that are composed of periodic continuous metallic wires dressed with periodic split ring resonators. An asymmetric Fano lineshape has been found in a narrow frequency range of the transmission curve. By using a transmission line combined with lumped element model, we are able to not o...
متن کاملEfficient Radiation by Electrically Small Antennas made of Coupled Split-ring Resonators
In this paper, coupled split-ring resonators (SRRs) are used to construct the electrically small antennas. We show that through strong magnetic coupling, the coupled SRRs composite can oscillate at a wavelength much larger than its total size. Due to its magnetic dipole feature, the coupled SRRs composite allows the electromagnetic (EM) power to radiate and hence forms the electrically small an...
متن کاملNear-field optical experiments on low-symmetry split-ring-resonator arrays.
Effective symmetric and antisymmetric eigenmodes of coupled plasmonic resonances play a crucial role in many photonic metamaterials. Recently, we discussed a particular arrangement of metallic split-ring resonators that is planar, hence enabling direct experimental access to the different eigenmodes via near-field optical microscopy. In this Letter, corresponding optical experiments are present...
متن کاملExperimental and numerical analyses of the resonances of split ring resonators
The authors investigate the resonances of split-ring resonator (SRR) structures experimentally and theoretically. The transmission measurements were performed on a single SRR unit cell and periodic arrays of SRRs. The magnetic response of the SRR structure was demonstrated by comparing the SRRs’ transmission spectra of with that of closed ring resonators (CRR). The surface currents along the SR...
