چکیده

PURPOSE: A small-scale study was conducted to evaluate fluridone (1-methyl-3-phenyl-5-[3trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4(1H)-pyridinone) efficacy under varying levels of turbidity when controlling curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus L.). There is no information on the effect of turbidity on fluridone efficacy against curlyleaf pondweed. It is unknown if turbidity impacts aqueous fluridone concentrations in the water column, thereby lessening herbicide efficacy and reducing control, or whether turbid conditions create additional stress that could intensify herbicide effects, causing greater plant injury and deterioration.

Efficacy of AVAST! Fluridone Formulation Against Eurasian Watermilfoil and Nontarget Submersed Plants

Experiments were conducted in a laboratory and an outdoor mesocosm system to evaluate the liquid AVAST!® fluridone formulation for control of Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum). In addition, physiological assays were used to monitor plant injury during herbicide exposure. Eurasian watermilfoil was planted in 52-L aquaria, grown to precanopy condition (21 days), then dosed with 0, 10,...

Forecasting the Vulnerability of Lakes to Aquatic Plant Invasions

Prevention is an integral component of many management strategies for aquatic invasive species, yet this represents a formidable task when the landscapes to be managed include multiple invasive species, thousands of waterbodies, and limited resources to implement action. Species distributional modeling can facilitate prevention efforts by identifying locations that are most vulnerable to future...

Fluridone Effects on Fanwort and Water Marigold

Growth chamber studies were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the aquatic herbicide fluridone for control of fanwort, and to assess the impact of treatment on the nontarget plant, water marigold. Treatments included static exposures of 0, 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 g fluridone L. Changes in pigment concentrations within the plant (phytoene, β-carotene, and chlorophyll) and biomass were...

In Situ Abscisic Acid Synthesis : A Requirement for Induction of Embryo Dormancy in Helianthus annuus.

When applied to young nondormant embryos of sunflower (Hellanthus annus) (7-10 day[s] after pollination [DAP]), abscisic acid (ABA) inhibited germination as long as it was present. However, whatever the dose used and the duration of its application, ABA was unable to induce dormancy because after transfer of treated embryos to control (without ABA) medium, germination occurred. Thereafter, exog...
