Shadows for Infrared Scene Generation

چکیده

In the infrared spectrum, two contributions to shadows exist: one part are reflective shadows resulting from occlusion of instantly reflected infrared rays, and the other part are thermal shadows occurring through occlusion of irradiance in the past. The realization of thermal shadows requires a thermal balance calculation in 4D (3D geometry in 1D time) which is computational expensive, and therefore mostly used for non-real-time simulations. This paper proposes new algorithms for the approximation of thermal shadows that run on state-of-the-art computer graphic cards.

Heuristical Real-time Shadows

Computer-generated graphical scenes benefit greatly from the inclusion of accurately rendered shadows. Shadows contribute to the realism of a scene, and also provide important depth cues, providing information relating to the relative position of objects within a scene. Indeed, it has been demonstrated in [Wanger et al. 1992] that compared to other visual cues, such as elevation, texture, persp...

Automatic generation of consistent shadows for augmented reality

In the context of mixed reality, it is difficult to simulate shadow interaction between real and virtual objects when only an approximate geometry of the real scene and the light source is known. In this paper, we present a realtime rendering solution to simulate colour-consistent virtual shadows in a real scene. The rendering consists of a three-step mechanism: shadow detection, shadow protect...

Cloud Effects in Hyperspectral Imagery from First-Principles Scene Simulations

Clouds and cloud fields introduce important backscattering, obscuration, shadowing and radiative trapping effects in visible-NIR(near-infrared)–SWIR(short-wavelength infrared) hyperspectral imagery of the ground, especially in offnadir (slant) viewing geometries where cloud thickness effects reduce the cloud-free line of sight (CFLOS). An investigation of these effects was conducted using monoc...

Detection and Tracking of Moving

This paper presents a method for detection and tracking of moving cast shadows on a dominating scene background in a monocular video sequence. The method assumes moving shadows on a dominant smooth shaped background. The shadow causing light sources are assumed to be strong enough to cause visible temporal frame diierences by moving cast shadows. These diierences are detected and classiied into...
