چکیده
One of our results: Let X be a finite set on the plane, 0 < ε < 1. Then there exists a set F (a weak ε-net) of size at most 7/ε such that every convex set containing at least ε|X| elements of X intersects F . Note that the size of F is independent of the size of X. 1Research supported by a United Stat es Isreal BSF grant 2On leave from the Mathematica l Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, POB 127, 1364 Budapest, Hungar y. Point Selections and Weak ε-Nets for Convex Hulls
One of our results: let X be a finite set on the plane, 0 < g < 1, then there exists a set F (a weak g-net) of size at most 7/e 2 such that every convex set containing at least e\X\ elements of X intersects F. Note that the size of F is independent of the size of X.
متن کاملCharacterization of weak fixed point property for new class of set-valued nonexpansive mappings
In this paper, we introduce a new class of set-valued mappings which is called MD-type mappings. This class of mappings is a set-valued case of a class of the D-type mappings. The class of D-type mappings is a generalization of nonexpansive mappings that recently introduced by Kaewkhao and Sokhuma. The class of MD-type mappings includes upper semi-continuous Suzuki type mappings, upper semi-con...
متن کاملHow to Net a Convex Shape
We revisit the problem of building weak ε-nets for convex ranges over a point set in R. Unfortunately, the known constructions of weak ε-nets yields sets that are of size Ω(ε−decd 2 ), where c is some constant. We offer two alternative schemes that yield significantly smaller sets, and two related results, as follows: (A) Let S be a sample of size Õ(dε) points from the original point set (which...
متن کاملNon-homogeneous continuous and discrete gradient systems: the quasi-convex case
In this paper, first we study the weak and strong convergence of solutions to the following first order nonhomogeneous gradient system $$begin{cases}-x'(t)=nablaphi(x(t))+f(t), text{a.e. on} (0,infty)\x(0)=x_0in Hend{cases}$$ to a critical point of $phi$, where $phi$ is a $C^1$ quasi-convex function on a real Hilbert space $H$ with ${rm Argmin}phineqvarnothing$ and $fin L^1(0...
متن کاملWeak E-nets for Points on a Hypersphere
A weak e-net for a set of points M, is a set of points W (not necessarily in M) where every convex set containing eiMI points in M must contain at least one point in W. Weak e-nets have applications in diverse areas such as computational geometry, learning theory, optimization and statistics. Here we show that, if M is a set of points quasi-uniformly distributed on a unit sphere sd-l, then ther...
