چکیده

A series of 520 cases of non-Hodgkin‘s lymphoma (NHL; 374 of B-cell, 130 of T-cell, 5 of non-Blnon-T-cell, and 11 of undetermined phenotype) was analyzed for the presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) using RNA in situ hybridization (RISH). The aims of the study were to assess the frequency of EBV-encoded small nuclear RNAs 1 and 2 (EBER), abundant immediate early RNAs (BHLF), and latent membrane protein-l (LMP-1) in cases covering the entire histologic spectrum of NHL, and to analyze whether EBV status had prognostic relevance with regard to patient survival. EBER positivity was found in 25 of 374 (7%) B-NHL and 40 of 130 (3196) T-NHL (P< .00005) cases, but in only 1 of 16 cases with non-Blnon-T-cell or undetermined phenotype. Among TNHL cases, EBER positivity was confined to angioimmunoblastic, lymphadenopathy-like lymphoma (11 of 13 cases, 8590). Lennert’s lymphoma (five of seven cases, 71%). and pleomorphic T-NHL (24 of 67 cases, 3696). Mycosisfungoides, lymphoblastic, and CD3O-positive anaplastic large T-cell NHL cases were consistently EBV-negative. Double-labeling by RISH and immunophenotyping demonstrated the presence of EBV in neoplastic T cells, but no CD21 expression was found in the EBER-positive T-NHL cases. LMP-1 was expressed in 12 of 40 (30?’0) EBER-positive T-NHL and 5 of 25

The Incidence of EBV in Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma: A Comparative Study of Immunohistochemical and PCR Techniques

Background and Objectives: Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) is one of the members of herpesviridae family and a sub-category of Gamma herpes virinae. EBV, which normally has CR2 or CD21 receptors on B-lymphocytes, has mutagenic features for them. The virus plays an important role in causing some malignant cancers. About 30% of the cases with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma are diffuse large B-cell l...

Immunophenotyping of Nodal Peripheral T-cell Lymphomas and its Association with Epstein-Barr Virus

Background: Immunophenotyping in the rare group of nodal Peripheral T-cell Lymphomas (PTCL) exposes interesting features such as T-cell marker downregulation and paradoxically, the presence of reactive, clustered large-sized CD20 positive B-cells (B-cell proliferation). Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been suggested as a putative etiology in pathogenesis of B-cell lymphoma. We aimed to review the ...

Lymphoma infectious mononucleosis by Epstein-Barr virus: A case report

Background: Epstein-Bar virus (EBV) causes infectious mononucleosis in more than 90% of children. Rarely, mononucleosis may lead to malignancy. The aim the current study was to introduce a child with mononucleosis and persistent adenopathy. Case report: A 4-year-old male patient presented with complaints of fever, shortness of breath and sore throat. He was treated with antibiotics and prednis...

LMP1 Immunohistochemistry in Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma of Sudanese Cases

Back ground: Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) with its different subtypes is strongly related to Epstein Bar virus (EBV) infection mainly Burkitt’s lymphoma in Africa. Studies proved the role of EBV in tumor-genesis and linked it to prognosis and therapy of patients. Objectives: To determine the frequency of EBV in non-Hodgkin lymphomas using EBV latent membrane protein 1 (EBVLMP1) immunohistochemi...

Expression of Epstein-Barr virus in Hodgkin lymphoma Specimens in IRAN.

Background & Objectives: The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV( is related with various diseases including infectious mononucleosis, Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and post-transplant lymphoprolifrative disorders. The aim of this study was to characterize the association between EBV and Hodgkin's lymphoma through EBERs in situ hybridization (EBER-ISH) in Iranian pat...
