Non-relativistic effective theory of dark matter direct detection

چکیده
Dark matter direct detection searches for signals coming from dark matter scattering against nuclei at a very low recoil energy scale ∼ 10 keV. In this paper, a simple non-relativistic effective theory is constructed to describe interactions between dark matter and nuclei without referring to any underlying high energy models. It contains the minimal set of operators that will be tested by direct detection. The effective theory approach highlights the set of distinguishable recoil spectra that could arise from different theoretical models. If dark matter is discovered in the near future in direct detection experiments, a measurement of the shape of the recoil spectrum will provide valuable information on the underlying dynamics. We bound the coefficients of the operators in our non-relativistic effective theory by the null results of current dark matter direct detection experiments. We also discuss the mapping between the non-relativistic effective theory and field theory models or operators, including aspects of the matching of quark and gluon operators to nuclear form factors. ar X iv :1 00 8. 15 91 v2 [ he pph ] 1 0 D ec 2 01 0

Direct Detection of Cold Dark Matter
We know from cosmological and astrophysical observations that more than 80% of the matter density in the Universe is non-luminous, or dark. This non-baryonic dark matter could be composed of neutral, heavy particles, which were non-relativistic, or ’cold’, when they decoupled from ordinary matter. I will review the direct detection methods of these hypothetical particles via their interactions ...
متن کاملNon-Perturbative Effect on Dark Matter Annihilation and Gamma Ray Signature from Galactic Center
Detection of gamma rays from dark matter annihilation in the galactic center is one of the feasible techniques to search for dark matter. We evaluate the gamma ray flux in the case that the dark matter has an electroweak SU(2)L charge. Such dark matter is realized in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) when the lightest SUSY particle is the Higgsinoor Wino-like neutralino. When the...
متن کاملYukawa Bound States of a Large Number of Fermions
We consider the bound state problem for a field theory that contains a Dirac fermion χ that Yukawa couples to a (light) scalar field φ. We are interested in bound states with a large number N of χ particles. A Fermi gas model is used to numerically determine the dependence of the radius R of these bound states on N and also the dependence of the binding energy on N . Since scalar interactions w...
متن کاملDirect and Indirect Detection of Dark Matter in Heterotic Orbifold Models
We study the neutralino dark matter phenomenology in the context of effective field theories derived from the weakly–coupled heterotic string. We consider in particular direct detection and indirect detection with neutrino telescopes rates. The two cases of moduli dominated and dilaton dominated SUSY breaking lead to completely different phenomenologies. Even if in both cases relic density cons...
متن کاملA Project for a Micro-tpc Matrix of Chambers of Helium 3 for Axial Direct Detection of Non-baryonic Dark Matter
MIMAC-He3 (MIcro-tpc MAtrix of Chambers of Helium 3) is a project for direct detection of non-baryonic dark matter search using He as sensitive medium. The priviledged properties of He are highlighted. The double detection : ionization and track projection, is explained and rejection evaluated. A phenomenological study in effective SUSY models has been to investigate the MIMAC-He3 complementari...
