Cost–effectiveness of iodinated contrast media for CT scanning in Spain: a decision-based analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Iodinated contrast media (CM) are among the most commonly used radiocontrast agents in radiographic examinations or in MRI studies. The clinical development of non-ionic low-osmolar or iso-osmolar iodinated CM has improved both image quality and safety of radioimaging studies. Nevertheless, CM-induced adverse reactions continue to be a public health problem; they are unpredictable and diverse in nature [1]. The added therapeutic value of iodinated CM may be defined according to their comparative safety, efficacy and cost–effectiveness. The efficacy or quality of the diagnostic image of iodinated CM mainly depends on iodine delivery rate [2], but the safety profile and efficiency may vary according to the type of CM administered. Although iodinated intravascular CM have been widely used over the last decades in various imaging diagnostic techniques, including CT, few data have been published on the cost–effectiveness of the different CM. Cost–effectiveness analyses of CM used in cardiology have been recommended [3], but economic data of iodinated CM used in radiodiagnostics are, in general, lacking [4]. In this context, we conducted a decision-based analysis to examine the cost–effectiveness of lowand iso-osmolar iodinated CM in adult patients undergoing CT in Spain.

Cost-Effectiveness analysis of malaria diagnosis techniques in patients with suspected malaria in Hormozgan province- 2012
Introduction: Since ancient times Malaria in Iran has been considered as a serious health risk, especially in Hormozgan Province, as no other disease like Malaria has imposed irreparable financial and life losses to the country. Since saving costs in the healthcare sector comes as first priority in most countries, this study aims at launching a cost-effectiveness analysis on malaria diagnosis d...

Although CT has developed as a morphologic technique, its anatomic specificity may be used to map physiologic events. Using intravenously infused iodinated contrast media, CT offers unique analysis of the integrity of the blood-brain barrier. If the barrier is not disrupted, the same iodinated indicators may be used to estimate vascular transit time and cerebral blood volume. Nonradioactive xen...

Background The accountability for reasonableness (A4R) framework defines 4 conditions for legitimate healthcare coverage decision processes: Relevance, Publicity, Appeals, and Enforcement. The aim of this study was to reflect on how the diverse features of decision-making processes can be aligned with A4R conditions to guide decisio...

Irrational use of medicines is a major problem worldwide. Since iodixanol (Visipaque®) was categorized in Category I (AV) based on the ABC-VED analysis in our hospital, we evaluated the amount of visipaque use and estimated the incremental cost based on the maximum contrast dose (MCD) following irrational use of contrast media. This retrospective study was conducted on 100 admitted patients age...
متن کاملAssessment of Contrast Media Volume Injected and Image Contrast in Abdominal Pelvic CT Scan and Related Factors in Referral Hospitals in Mazandaran, Iran
Background and purpose: Computed tomography scan (CT) is highly capable of diagnosing abdominal and pelvic lesions. Injection of contrast media at appropriate concentration and volume provides the least side effects and the highest image quality. This study aimed at investigating the volume of contrast medium injected and the level of image contrast compared to the standard model, in the imagi...
