چکیده

We propose a vision-based registration method for Augmented Reality (AR) that uses real scenes containing multiple planar structures. Our method provides users with an enhanced view of a real scene by overlaying computer-generated virtual objects onto images captured with a movable camera. The virtual objects are associated with a 3D planar structure and appeared to move with that structure. To align the coordinates of the virtual objects with the coordinates of the images captured with the camera, the camera’s motion should be estimated for every frame by tracking and integrating the multiple planes. In contrast with related work, the proposed method does not require a priori knowledge about the geometrical relationships among the multiple planes because the geometrical relationship is automatically estimated by ‘‘Projective Space”. This space is 3D and is defined by projective reconstruction of two reference images. Automatic estimation using the Projective Space can eliminate the time-consuming task of measuring the planes and the constraints of plane arrangement, e.g. only vertical or co-planar. Therefore, the proposed method can be applied even to complicated multi-planar scenes. 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Vision-Based Registration for Augmented Reality with Integration of Arbitrary Multiple Planes

We propose a novel vision-based registration approach for Augmented Reality with integration of arbitrary multiple planes. In our approach, we estimate the camera rotation and translation by an uncalibrated image sequence which includes arbitrary multiple planes. Since the geometrical relationship of those planes is unknown, for integration of them, we assign 3D coordinate system for each plane...

Vision Based Registration for Augmented Reality Using Multi-planes in Arbitrary Position and Pose by Moving Uncalibrated Camera

This paper presents a novel AR registration method for overlaying a virtual object onto real world by multiple planes in arbitrary positions and poses. In this method, we do not require neither artificial markers nor sensors, but natural feature points on arbitrary multiple planes. We assign a 3D coordinate system for each plane independently. For each coordinate system, the projection matrix i...

Dynamic registration correction in video-based augmented reality systems

This paper addresses the problem of correcting visual registration errors in video-based augmented reality systems. Accurate visual registration between real and computergenerated objects in combined images is critically important for conveying the perception that both types of object occupy the same 3-dimensional (3D) space. Previous augmented reality systems concentrated on improving 3D coord...

Improving Augmented Reality using Image and Scene Constraints

The goal of augmented reality is to insert virtual objects into real video sequences. This paper shows that by incorporating image-based geometric constraints over multiple views, we improve on traditional techniques which use purely 3D information. The constraints imposed are chosen to directly target perceptual cues, important to the human visual system, by which errors in AR are most readily...
