Cardiopulmonary Function Studies in Workers Dealing with Asbestos and Glasswool.

چکیده
Pulmonary fibrosis is thought to be a common complication of exposure to asbestos dust. The inhaled asbestos fibres are supposedly not transported by the pulmonary lymphatics, and thus one single massive exposure might lead to the same stage of fibrosis as a prolonged but less intense exposure. This industrial hazard has led to the search for substitutes for asbestos in insulation work, and at present glasswool and rockwool are often used. The fragmentation of these materials may give rise to fibre particles which can be inhaled and deposited in the alveoli. The possible effect on cardiopulmonary function in a group of men doing insulation work, with prolonged exposure to glasswool and rockwool dust, is the subject of the present paper, and a similarly exposed group of asbestos workers was studied for comparison.

Evaluation of cellular immunity in patients with asbestosis and workers exposed to asbestos
Introduction: A large number of studies have proved a relationship between maligant mesothelioma and workers exposed to asbestos. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of immunocompetence of the asbestos workers in comparison with non asbestos workers. Methods and materials: In this study 7 asbestotic patients, 73 workers exposed to asbestos and 59 controls from 2 Farsit fact...

متن کاملBinding of environmental carcinogens to asbestos and mineral fibres.
A rapid method has been developed for measuring the binding capacity of asbestos and other mineral fibres for environmental carcinogens. Benzo(alpha)pyrene (B(alpha)P), nitrosonornicotine (NNN), and N-acetyl-2-aminofluorene (NAAF) were assayed in the presence of Canadian grade 4T30 chrysotile, chrysotile A, amosite, crocidolite, glass microfibres, glasswool, attapulgite, and titanium dioxide. C...
متن کاملPatterns of pulmonary dysfunction in asbestos workers: a cross-sectional study
BACKGROUND Restrictive patterns of pulmonary function abnormalities associated with asbestos exposure are well described. Studies are less consistent, however, regarding the association of asbestos inhalation with airway dysfunction and obstructive impairment. METHODS We compared pulmonary function test results between 277 chrysotile exposed workers (22% non-smokers) and 177 unexposed control...
