چکیده
After it is shown that the classical ve points mesh-centered nite diierence scheme can be derived from a low order nodal nite element scheme by using nonstandard quadrature formulae, higher order block mesh-centered nite diierence schemes for second-order elliptic problems are derived from higher order nodal nite elements with nonstandard quadrature formulae as before, combined to a procedure known as \transverse integration". Numerical experiments with uniform and nonuniform meshes and diierent types of boundary conditions connrm the theoretical predictions, in discrete as well as continuous norms. Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis of Bending of Straight Beams Using hp-Spectral Approximations
Displacement finite element models of various beam theories have been developed using traditional finite element interpolations (i.e., Hermite cubic or equi-spaced Lagrange functions). Various finite element models of beams differ from each other in the choice of the interpolation functions used for the transverse deflection w, total rotation φ and/or shear strain γxz, or in the integral form u...
متن کاملMixed-Mode Stress Intensity Factors for Surface Cracks in Functionally Graded Materials Using Enriched Finite Elements
Three-dimensional enriched finite elements are used to compute mixed-mode stress intensity factors (SIFs) for three-dimensional cracks in elastic functionally graded materials (FGMs) that are subject to general mixed-mode loading. The method, which advantageously does not require special mesh configuration/modifications and post-processing of finite element results, is an enhancement of previou...
متن کاملEnhanced Cell-Centered Finite Differences for Elliptic Equations on General Geometry
We present an expanded mixed finite element method for solving second-order elliptic partial differential equations on geometrically general domains. For the lowest-order Raviart–Thomas approximating spaces, we use quadrature rules to reduce the method to cell-centered finite differences, possibly enhanced with some face-centered pressures. This substantially reduces the computational complexit...
متن کاملControl Volume Finite Element Method with Multidimensional Edge Element Scharfetter-Gummel upwinding. Part 1. Formulation
We develop a new formulation of the Control Volume Finite Element Method (CVFEM) with a multidimensional Scharfetter-Gummel (SG) upwinding for the drift-diffusion equations. The formulation uses standard nodal elements for the concentrations and expands the flux in terms of the lowest-order Nedelec H(curl,Ω)-compatible finite element basis. The SG formula is applied to the edges of the elements...
متن کاملAdaptive Surface Modeling Using a Quadtree of Quadratic Finite Elements
This article presents special quadrilateral quadratic refinement elements, which provide geometry and field continuity across Tjunctions where two elements are connected to one side of a larger quadrilateral. The main idea in element refinement is to place one or more nodes outside the element area and to modify element shape functions in order to maintain continuity at refinement edges. Specia...
