The Marked Status of Accent 2 in Central Swedish
نویسندگان
چکیده
Based on results from psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic research on the perception of word accents in Central Swedish, we argue that Accent 2 could be seen as “marked,” as opposed to the unmarked Accent 1. The markedness of Accent 2 is assumed to be both phonetic, due to its relatively more complex high tone, and cognitive, due to the fact that the Accent 2 tone activates more word forms and thus increases processing load.

The Morphological Status of Accent 2 in North Germanic Simplex Forms
The issue of markedness of tonal accents in North Germanic (most Swedish and Norwegian dialects) has never been settled. For a long time, it looked like there was reasonable agreement that the distinction was privative and that it was accent 2 that was marked, accent 1 representing default intonation (Sweet, 1877:155, Elert, 1964:197, Haugen, 1967, Kristoffersen, 1993, Riad, 1998). Recently – a...
متن کاملPhonetic markedness, turning points, and anticipatory attention
Phonetic markedness regarding linguistically relevant tonal patterns (Accent 2, boundary tones) in Central Swedish is discussed. Both tonal markedness and F0 turning points are assumed to be important cues for anticipatory attention to grammatical structure during speech processing. Empirical evidence from neurolinguistic and psycholinguistic experiments for the assumed relation between anticip...

The topic of this paper is the variability of pitch realisation of phrase-initial accent I. In our study we have observed a difference in variability for the varieties investigated. متن کاملIn search of word accents in Estonian Swedish
This study focuses on the word accent opposition in a lesser known and endangered variety of Swedish – Estonian Swedish. The variety has been described as not making the tonal distinction between Accent 1 and Accent 2 words, but no systematic acoustic phonetic investigation has been carried out previously to confirm these descriptions. As materials, disyllabic words from read sentences, spontan...
