Fulminant hepatic failure in a patient with advanced extragonadal germ cell tumour.

چکیده
Fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) in association with metastatic cancer, without evidence of liver metastases, has not been previously reported in the literature. This report concerns a case of FHF in a 36-year-old man with advanced germ cell tumour arising from an extragonadal (retroperitoneal) primary. Liver function and encephalopathy improved following chemotherapy, suggesting prompt diagnosis and treatment may have cured the patient. Following completion of chemotherapy, he developed spontaneous bacterial endocarditis, requiring aortic valve replacement, a rare complication of curative chemotherapy. At 44 months post completion of chemotherapy, he has regained his premorbid performance status and has returned to work.

Advanced testicular cancer associated with life-threatening tumour lysis syndrome and choriocarcinoma syndrome.
Tumour lysis syndrome (TLS) and choriocarcinoma syndrome (CS) are severe complications of chemotherapy for testicular cancer. They are rare, but can be life-threatening. A 37-year-old man complaining of persisting cough was referred to our hospital. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed huge tumours that occupied the peritoneal cavity, with multiple lung, liver, and para-aortic metastases. A...
متن کاملDisseminated lung cancer or extragonadal germ cell tumour?
Two patients are reported in whom an initial diagnosis of disseminated non small cell bronchogenic carcinoma was subsequently changed into a final diagnosis of extragonadal germ cell tumour. The clinical importance of the differential diagnosis between these two malignancies is highlighted and the management of extragonadal germ cell tumours is discussed.

OBJECTIVE To describe a case of retroperitoneal metastasis of a gonadal germ cell tumour with the "burned-out" phenomenon in a 35 year old patient with a suspected diagnosis of retroperitoneal tumour of neurogenic origin. METHODS With the clinical and radiological suspicion of retroperitoneal tumour of neurogenic origin the tumour was removed, via the retroperitoneal space. RESULTS Patholo...
متن کاملElevated parathyroid hormone-related peptide in a patient with an extragonadal germ-cell tumour and hypercalcemia.
' 2004 Canadian Medical Association H has been described as a paraneoplastic syndrome associated with most malignant lesions but is very rarely reported in association with germ cell tumours. Paraneoplastic hypercalcemia is typically related to the production of parathyroid hormone–related peptide (PTHrP). I describe here what I believe to be the first case of germ cell tumour with hypercalcemi...
متن کاملGlyphosate Poisoning with Acute Fulminant Hepatic Failure
Background: Glyphosate containing herbicides are widely used the world over. They are marketed as nontoxic to humans, but numerous studies have showed that these glyphosate-based herbicides (GlySH) can cause multiorgan damage.1 Recent reports of animal studies on rats have raised a doubt of liver damage after long term exposure to GlySH. Case Presentation: a young male had chronic exposure to G...
