Postoperative analgesia in children: an update.

چکیده
The International Association for the Study of Pain has defined pain as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage3. Several experts suggest that the neonate’s expression of pain does not fit within the strict definition of the International Association for Study of Pain because of the requirement for self-report. This lack of ability to report pain contributes to the failure to recognize and treat pain aggressively during infancy and early childhood3. Because neonates cannot verbalize their pain, they depend on others to recognize, assess, and manage their pain. Therefore, health care professionals can diagnose neonatal pain only by recognizing the neonate’s associated behavioral and physiological responses.

متن کاملEffect of Spinal and Systemic Clonidine Administration on the Postoperative Analgesia in Morphine-dependent and Naive Rats
Post operative pain and its control remains one of the most important issues in the field of surgery and health care system. Formalin test has been used as a method for assessing pain and analgesia in rats. Systemic and spinally administered clonidine, an ?2-adrenergic agonist, is proved to enhance postoperative analgesia. It has also been shown that morphine-dependent rats experience more chr...

متن کاملEpidural analgesia is superior to local infiltration analgesia in children with cerebral palsy undergoing unilateral hip reconstruction
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Treatment of postoperative pain in children with cerebral palsy (CP) is a major challenge. We investigated the effect of epidural analgesia, high-volume local infiltration analgesia (LIA), and an approximated placebo control on early postoperative pain in children with CP who were undergoing unilateral hip reconstruction. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 2009 and 2014, we i...
متن کاملPatient controlled analgesia versus conventional analgesia for postoperative pain
Purpose: Patients may control postoperative pain by self-administration of intravenous opioids using devices designed for this purpose (patient controlled analgesia or PCA). This study set out to determine whether any of the two opioid administrations (i.e. PCA or conventional analgesia) would provide superior pain relief among patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy or not. ...
