Local ischemic post-conditioning: moving in the right direction?.
نویسنده
چکیده
ly, methods were developed to use the angioplasty balloon within the infarct-related coronary artery to re-occlude blood flow and experimentally modify the early reperfusion phase. In this issue of Cardiology, Wei et al. [6] present a meta-analysis of 13 studies conducted between 2005 and 2011 involving a total of 673 patients, of which 352 were treated by local ischemic post-conditioning during PPCI. They report data relating to its effect on: (i) biochemical measures of infarct size, (ii) imaging measures of infarct size, (iii) indices of reperfusion (ST-segment resolution, blush grade and TIMI frame count), (iv) measures of left ventricular function and (v) clinical outcome measures [6] . They report a positive consistent effect of local ischemic post-conditioning on all of these measures, despite the varying protocols used in these studies. The reported 7.8% (95% CI 7.12–8.46) difference in LV ejection fraction at 3 months after the infarct is clinically meaningful, and there is a suggestion of reduced progression towards heart failure. Two other metaanalyses in this area strongly support these findings with regard to the effects on infarct size and LV ejection fraction [7, 8] .

The Effect of Pre-Conditioning Endurance Training on Neurogenic and Anti-Neurogenic Factor in Hippocampus of Male Rats Following Ischemic Reperfusion
Introduction: Binding of mature brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) to tyrosine kinase B (TrkB) receptor leads to cell survival, while proBDNF binding to p75 receptor leads to cell death. Thus the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of eight weeks pre-conditioning endurance training on BDNF, TrkB, proBDNF and p75 levels in the hippocampus male rats following ischemic re...
متن کاملIncrease of uncoupling protein-2 expression in the ischemic rat heart
Introduction: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been suggested to play an important role in the myocardial damage induced by ischemia – reperfusion. One element believed to be activated by ROS and to contribute to the reduction of ROS production, is the uncoupling protein-2 (UCP2). The objective of this investigation was to explore the effect of myocardial ischemia reperfusion on cardiac UC...
متن کاملThe role of nitric oxide in the protective action of remote ischemic per-conditioning against ischemia/reperfusion-induced acute renal failure in rat
Objective(s): We investigated the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the protective effects of remote ischemic per-conditioning (rIPerC) on renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in male rats. Materials and Methods: I/R treatment consisted of 45 min bilateral renal artery ischemia and 24 hr reperfusion interval. rIPerC was performed using four cycles of 2 min occlusions of the left femoral artery an...
متن کاملDelayed post-ischemic conditioning significantly improves the outcome after retinal ischemia.
In previous studies, it was shown that post-conditioning, a transient period of brief ischemia following prolonged severe ischemia in the retina, could provide significant improvement in post-ischemic recovery, attenuation of cell loss, and decreased apoptosis. These studies showed that post-conditioning effectively prevented damage after retinal ischemia when it was instituted early (within 1 ...
متن کاملModification of the filehne illusion by conditioning visual stimuli
During smooth pursuit eye movements made across a stationary background an illusory motion of the background is perceived (Filehne illusion). The present study was undertaken in order to test if the Filehne illusion can be influenced by information unrelated to the retinal image slip prevailing and to the eye movement being executed. The Filehne illusion was measured in eight subjects by determ...
