چکیده

The ability of seeds to germinate at high salt concentration in the soil is crucial importance for the survival and perpetuation of many plant species. Therefore, we examined effects of different concentrations of NaCl (200, 400, 600 and 800 mM) on germination of four species from fam. Solanaceae and Brassicaceae (Capsicum annum, Solanum lycopersicum, Brasica oleracea and Sinapis alba). By this experiment, we wanted to determine which concentrations of salt would not interfere with germination of seeds these plants. The obtained results showed that seeds of all the species germinate only in the lowest concentration of NaCl (200 mM). However, after rinsing with distilled water, seeds of all the examined species, except S. alba, germinate in great number. When GA3 was added, seeds of C. annum germinated in great number, but seeds of other plants did not germinate.

Distinct cell wall architectures in seed endosperms in representatives of the Brassicaceae and Solanaceae.

In some species, a crucial role has been demonstrated for the seed endosperm during germination. The endosperm has been shown to integrate environmental cues with hormonal networks that underpin dormancy and seed germination, a process that involves the action of cell wall remodeling enzymes (CWREs). Here, we examine the cell wall architectures of the endosperms of two related Brassicaceae, Ara...

A STUDY ON SEED DORMANCY AND GERMINATION IN TEN SPECIES OF GRASS WEEDS

Seed dormancy has an important role in resistance and survival mechanisms of plants. Finding of some information about the range of primary dormancy and effective factors in dormancy breaking and optimal conditions of seed germination are necessary for weed control and other research purposes.  In this research, the seeds of 10 species of grass weeds in Tehran province fields (Echinocloa...

Allelopathic Effects of Amygdalus scoparia, Daphne mezereum, and Ebenus stellata on Seed Germination Percentage of Important Under-Floor Species

Introduction: Allelopathy refers to the plants’ mutual biochemical effects. Despite their significant role in improving and restoring Iranian rangelands, the plants’ allelopathic effects on each other have often been neglected in rangeland seeding. Scholars argue that in stressful conditions of the arid areas caused by low precipitation, the effects of metabolic chemicals secreted by allelochem...
