Zhu). It is essential for the Future Internet to fully support multihoming and select most appropriate paths for Concurrent Multipath Transfer (CMT). In real complex networks, different paths are likely to overlap each other and even share bottlenecks which can weaken the path diversity gained through CMT. Spurred by this observation, it is necessary to select multiple independent paths insofar as possible. However, the path correlation lurks behind the IP/network layer topology, so we have to fall back to end-to-end probes to estimate this correlation by analyzing path delay characteristics. In this paper, we present the first step towards a new topic of correlation-aware multipath selection, with formal and systematic problem definition, modeling and solution. Based on a well-designed delay probing, a Grouping-based Multipath Selection (GMS) mechanism is developed to avoid underlying shared bottlenecks between topologically joint paths. In addition, we further propose a practical functionality framework and define a novelmultihoming sublayer for the exchange of the multipath capabilities. Extensive simulations demonstrate that the GMS under different network conditions performs much better than other selection schemes, even with burst background traffic. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Evaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures

Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...

In this paper we will investigate the deficiencies and the achievements of today’s Internet. We outline why and how Network Virtualization (NV) can overcome the shortfalls of the current system and how it paves the way for the future Internet. Furthermore, we investigate the performance of a concurrent multipath transmission mechanisms which is implemented using routing overlays and which is fa...

Estimating the Effects of Multipath Selection on Concurrent Multipath Transfer

Multi-mode device which combines multiple access technologies into a device will offer more cost-effective solution than a sole access implementation. Its concurrent multipath transfer (CMT) technology can transmit media flows over multiple end-to-end paths simultaneously, which is essential to select at least two paths from all available paths. At real networks, different paths are likely to o...
