Box 330 440, D 28334 Bremen, till tzi.de 1 Overview The use of formal methods is propagated to in rease the se urity and safety of developed software. However, the logi al formalization of software systems is error-proned. As even the veri ation of small-sized industrial developments require several person months, spe i ation errors revealed in late veri ation phases pose an in al ulable risk for the overall proje t osts. Thus, an evolutionary formal development approa h is absolutely indispensable in all appli ations so far, as it was hardly ever the ase that the development steps were orre tly designed in the rst attempt. The sear h for formally orre t software and the orresponding proofs is more like a formal re e tion of partial developments rather than just a way to assure and prove more or less evident fa ts. The MAYA-system supports an evolutionary formal development as it allows the user to spe ify and verify his/her development and maintain and reuse the veri ation work already done when hanging the spe i ation. MAYA supports the use of various (stru tured) spe i ation languages like Casl [CASL98℄ and VSE-SL [VSE96℄ to formalize the software development. Moreover, MAYA provides a generi interfa e to plugin additional parsers for the support of other spe i ation languages.
