Abnormal behavioural patterns in dogs with cleft palates.

چکیده
Cleft lip and palate, separately or in combination, are amongst the most frequent congenital deformities found in mankind and its incidence may be as high as one birth in every seven hundred [Graber, 1969]. Furthermore, a twenty-year study indicates that the occurrence of cleft lip and palate is increasing [Fogh-Andcrsen, 1961]. In order to obtain information which may aid in the treatment of patients born with cleft palates, animals with similar deformities were studied. Without human assistance, new born pups are dependent on their mothers for nourishment and the maintenance of a suitable environment. Despite the fact that puppies born with cleft palates are usually large and strong it is common for the mother to actively reject them soon after birth. Those which are accepted, become progressively emaciated because they arc unable to suckle on their own. These two factors account for the high mortality rate of the afllictcd animals. To study the growth and develop ment of puppies born with cleft palates, several of these animals were reared.

Common Mutations of the Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene in Non-Syndromic Cleft Lips and Palates Children in North-West of Iran
Introduction: Cleft lips and cleft palates are common congenital abnormalities in children. Various chromosomal loci have been suggested to be responsible the development of these abnormalities. The present study was carried out to investigate the association between the suspected genes (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase [MTHFR] A1298C and C677T) that might contribute into the etiology of the...
متن کاملCleft Palate Produced in Mice by Human-Equivalent Dosage with Triamcinolone.
Triamcinolone produced cleft palates in mouse embryos at a dosage proportionate, by body weight, to common therapeutic dosage for humans. Thus, it showed much greater teratogenicity than other glucocorticoids tested on mice. Widely ranging doses of desoxycorticosterone did not produce cleft palates.
متن کاملClinical and Genetic Peculiarities of Isolated Cleft Palates
The systematic investigations on genealogical data of children with clefts have revealed that there is clinicalgenetic heterogeneity between cleft lips and/or palates (CL/ P) and isolated cleft palates (CP). Isolated cleft palates are often a constituent part of syndromes. These clefts are most frequently found in Pierre Robin syndrome, as this syndrome is more typical for the girls than the bo...
متن کاملQuality of life among children with cleft lips and palates: a critical review of measurement instruments
Background: Multidisciplinary teams that treat patients with cleft lips and palates seek to promote quality of life (QoL) in this population. In this study, we aim to identify instruments in the literature that can be used to assess comprehensive aspects of QoL (related to functionality, aesthetics, and outcomes) for this population. Methods: We searched literatureonPubMedpublishedbetween...
