چکیده

The emerging technique of magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM) (Sidles, 1991) was conceived by Sidles (1992) as a tool that could provide the revolutionary capability for three-dimensional imaging of single-copy biomolecules. This challenging goal has been augmented by a growing interest in applying it to imaging, especially subsurface imaging, of a broad range of materials and devices including those that are the subject of this handbook. New materials and devices with unprecedented capabilities and levels of performance are being created by tailoring the structure and composition of multicomponent materials at the nanometer scale. Some of the most important examples are systems incorporating and exploiting electronic spin in its many manifestations including ferromagnetism. A central component of a successful materials development program

Magnetic force microscopy using fabricated cobalt-coated carbon nanotubes probes

Magnetic force microscope ( MFM ) is a powerful technique for mapping the magnetic force gradient above the sample surface. Herein, single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) were used to fabricate MFM probe by dielectrophoresis method which is a reproducible and cost-effective technique. The effect of induced voltage on the deposition manner of carbon nanotubes (CNT) on the atomic force microscope (...

Towards a Magnetic Resonance Force Microscope Employing a Ferromagnetic Probe Mounted on the Force Detector

A crucial remaining challenge in the development of the magnetic resonance force microscope (MRFM) is to place the magnetic probe on the mechanical resonator. Here we address the problem of spurious detector response arising from interactions between the magnetic tip and various external applied elds. Ferromagnetic resonance experiments on a microscopic, thin-lm yttrium iron garnet crystal moun...

Magnetic resonance force microscopy with a ferromagnetic tip mounted on the force detector.

The Magnetic Resonance Force Microscope (MRFM) presents the opportunity for a magnetic resonance imaging probe with ultra-high, potentially atomic-scale, resolution. The successful application of this technique in detection of nuclear magnetic, electron-spin and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) highlights its significant potential. We discuss the capabilities of the MRFM with particular emphasis o...

The Conformations of 1-Thiacyclooctan-3-One Dynamic Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Force-Field Calculation

The 1H and natural-abundance 13C-NMR spectra of 1-thiacyclooctan-3-one (1) have been measured from 25 to -100°C. Coalescence is observed in the 1H-NMR spectra of (1) at about -80°C, and attributed to ring inversion in a boat-chair conformation, which is the predominant conformation of (1). The free energy of activation (DG¹</s...

The Magnetic-Resonance Force Microscope: A New Tool for High-Resolution, 3-D, Subsurface Scanned Probe Imaging

The magnetic-resonance force microscope (MRFM) is a novel scanned probe instrument which combines the three-dimensional (3-D) imaging capabilities of magnetic-resonance imaging with the high sensitivity and resolution of atomic-force microscopy. It will enable nondestructive, chemical-specific, high-resolution microscopic studies and imaging of subsurface properties of a broad range of material...

Probe--sample coupling in the magnetic resonance force microscope.

The magnetic resonance force microscope (MRFM) provides a route to achieving scanned probe magnetic resonance imaging with extremely high spatial resolution. Achieving this capability will require understanding the force exerted on a microscopic magnetic probe by a spatially extended sample over which the probe is scanned. Here we present a detailed analysis of this interaction between probe an...
