چکیده

In this paper, metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) from 6-propionyl-2-dimethylaminonaphthalene (Prodan) in different solvents when placed in close proximity to silver island films (SIFs), surface-deposited nanoparticles, is studied. We observe that MEF is wavelength dependent: the enhanced emission of Prodan on SIFs in different solvents changes from 1.5to 3-fold as compared to a glass control sample containing no silver nanoparticles. Our findings strongly suggest that MEF of Prodan in different solvents is correlated with the scattering portion of the extinction spectrum for metallic particles, i.e., the fluorophore couples and radiates through that scattering mode, which further confirms our laboratories current interpretation of the MEF effect.

Wavelength-dependent metal-enhanced fluorescence using synchronous spectral analysis

The fluorescence spectrum of Au-clusters (8and 25-atom), which covers the spectral range 350–900 nm, is dramatically enhanced in the presence of plasmon supporting plate-well deposited nanoparticles. The wavelength-dependent metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF spectrum) correlates well with the plasmon specific scattering spectrum, i.e. the synchronous scatter spectrum of the silver surface of pla...

Metal-enhanced fluorescence from tin nanostructured surfaces

The recent surge in interest in the metal-enhanced fluorescence MEF phenomenon and its numerous applications in the biosciences has fueled research into identifying alternative metals to silver which have desirable properties, such as enhanced emission and fluorophore photostability. In this paper, we subsequently study and reveal that tin nanodeposits are a suitable metal for MEF with an elect...

Broad Wavelength Range Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence Using Nickel Nanodeposits

We describe the use of surface-deposited nickel nanoparticles to enhance the fluorescence signatures of fluorophores. Different density Ni nanoparticulate substrates were fabricated and characterized using both AFM and optical absorption techniques. When fluorophores were placed in close proximity to the substrates, metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) was observed. The wavelength dependence of th...

Optimal Structure of a Plasmonic Chip for Sensitive Bio-Detection with the Grating-Coupled Surface Plasmon-Field Enhanced Fluorescence (GC-SPF)

Surface plasmon field-enhanced fluorescence (SPF) has been one of the powerful tools for biosensors and bioimaging. A wavelength-scale periodic structure coated with a thin metal film is called a plasmonic chip, and it can provide SPF. SPF of Cy5-streptavidin (Cy5-SA) was measured on a biotinylated plasmonic chip with a grating of 480 nm-pitch. The optimal structure of a plasmonic sensor-chip w...
