چکیده

It has been observed that the pattern of particle impact breakage in two-dimensional systems is a result of two mechanisms. AMechanism IB accounts for the breakage induced by the stresses that appear in unbroken particles. AMechanism IIB breakage is due to the buckling of the Mechanism I fragments. The purpose of this paper is to try and understand the parameters that govern the magnitude of the breakage induced by the various mechanisms—in particular, to understand the specific effects of impact velocity on the size distribution. To that end, a dimensionless parameter that governs the magnitude of the breakage induced by Mechanism I in both two and three dimensions is developed. The two-dimensional analysis demonstrates a velocity dependence for the Mechanism I breakage that accounts for the observed velocity effect on the generated size distributions. However, the three-dimensional analysis demonstrates no such velocity effect. Both findings are supported by simulation results. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A Study of the Rockfill Material Behavior in Large-Scale Tests

Inspecting the behavior of the rockfill materials is of significant importance in analysis of rockfill dams. Since the dimensions of grains in such materials are greater than the conventional sizes suitable for soil mechanics tests, it is necessary to experimentally study them in specific large-scale apparatuses. In this research, the behavior of rockfill materials in two large rockfill dams co...

The two mechanisms of particle impact breakage and the velocity effect

This paper describes a two-dimensional computer simulation study of the impact induced breakage of brittle solid particles. The work started as an attempt to understand the effect of impact velocity on the induced breakage and in particular to explain why there is a shift in the slope of the size distribution at large impact velocities. The results indicate that the observed breakage pattern is...

A STUDY ON THE SPECIFIC RATE OF BREAKAGE OF IRON ORE OF SANGAN MINE IN A LABORATORY BALL MILL

Abstract: The specific rate of breakage is one of the most important factors in evaluation of grinding process especially in ball mill. In this article the effect of ball size and feed size on selection function were investigated using batch grinding circuit on two-iron ore anomaly (B, C) from sangan mine in north of Iran. Eight different monosize fractions were prepared between 2000 and 50...

Parametric plasmonics and second harmonic generation in particle chains.

Parametric optics and second harmonic generation in pure plasmonic particle chains are studied. By a proper design of the plasmonic particle geometry, the modes supported by the chain can achieve phase-matching conditions. Then the magnetic-field dependence of the plasmon electric susceptibility can provide the nonlinearity and the coupling mechanism leading to parametric processes, sum frequen...

Modeling of Coarse Particle Shape Evolution During Attrition in a Stirred Vessel

Particle breakage in stirred vessels is usually modeled using population balance equations (PBEs) to describe the evolution in particle size with time. Although shape has a strong effect on the particle properties and hence the product quality, changes in the particle shape distribution are typically neglected. To account for changes in both size and shape simultaneously, a multivariate populat...
