Stability of Gravity with a Cosmological Constant

چکیده
The stability properties of Einstein theory with a cosmological constant A are investigated. For A > 0, stability is established for small fluctuations, about the de Sitter background, occurring inside the event horizon and semiclassical stability is anal~ed. For A < 0, stability is demonstrated for all asymptotically anti-de Sitter metrics. The analysis is based on the general construction of conserved flux-integral expressions associated with the symmetries of a chosen background. The effects of an event horizon, which lead to Hawking radiation, are expressed for general field hamiltonians. Stability for A < 0 is proved, using supergravity techniques, in terms of the graded anti-de Sitter algebra with spinorial charges also expressed as flux integrals.

In this paper we consider the action of higher derivative gravity up to the second order terms in the scalars made from the Ricci scalar, Ricci and Riemann tensors. We use the Bach- Lanczos identity of the Weyl tensor in four dimensions and show that the solutions of 4-dimensional Einstein equations with cosmological constant term in vacuum, which are known as Einstein metrics, satisfy the fie...
متن کاملStability of higher derivative modifications of Einstein - aether theory
A time-like unit vector field is used to generalize Einstein's gravity. The resulting theory, called the Einstein-aether theory, consists of a minimal coupling between an aether field and gravity. Inspired by the Bopp-Podolsky electrodynamics, which is well-known for removing the singularity at the point charge, we generalized the Einstein-aether theory by adding such a higher order self-intera...
متن کاملGravity in the dynamical approach to the cosmological constant
One of the most disturbing difficulties in thinking about the cosmological constant is that it is not stable under radiative corrections. The feedback mechanism proposed in ref. [1] is a dynamical way to protect a zero or small cosmological constant against radiative corrections. Hence, while this by itself does not solve the cosmological constant problem, it can help solving the problem. In th...

We begin a program of work aimed at examining the interior of a rotating black hole with a non–zero cosmological constant. The generalisation of Teukolsky’s equation for the radial mode functions is presented. It is shown that the energy fluxes of scalar, electromagnetic and gravity waves are regular at the Cauchy horizon whenever the surface gravity there is less than the surface gravity at th...
