چکیده

Strongly coupled plasmas are ubiquitous in nature as they are found in stars, brown dwarfs and giant planets. A study of the physical properties of such plasmas in the laboratory is therefore of great importance to our understanding of the universe. Another very important problem associated with strongly coupled plasmas is the slowing down of charged particles in such systems. It has been theoretically predicted that stopping power of strongly coupled plasmas will be lower than that of ideal plasmas. This could have very important implications on inertial confinement fusion target design.

High Energy Density Physics with Intense Ion and Laser Beams

Editorial The main event of the year 2008 for our community was undoubtedly the kick-off event for the FAIR facility, which took place in November 2008. Professor V.E. Fortov represented our community pointing out the relevance of intense heavy ion beams for high energy density physics. He emphasized that high energy density matter is essential when considering the operation of pulsed reactors ...

Opportunities for Lattice QCD Thermodynamics Lattice QCD Executive Committee

Over the next decade high performance computing resources will reach the petaflops scale. Coupled with current and planned experiments at RHIC, FAIR, and the LHC, these computational resources will offer significant opportunities for the advancement of our understanding of the properties of strongly interacting matter at high temperatures and densities. We describe expected quantitative and qua...

Solution and stability analysis of coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations

We consider a new type of integrable coupled nonlinear Schrodinger (CNLS)equations proposed by our self [submitted to Phys. Plasmas (2011)]. The explicitform of soliton solutions are derived using the Hirota's bilinear method. We show that the parameters in the CNLS equations only determine the regionsfor the existence of bright and dark soliton solutions. Finally, throughthe linear stability an...

Microscopic dynamics in two-dimensional strongly-coupled dusty plasmas

A strongly-coupled plasma is a collection of free charged particles that interact with a Coulomb repulsion that is so strong that nearby particles do not easily move past one another. Unlike weakly-coupled plasmas, strongly-coupled plasmas exhibit a self-organization of particles into an arrangement like a solid crystalline lattice or a liquid. Dusty plasmas consist of micron-size particles of ...

Non-linear charge reduction effect in strongly-coupled plasmas

The charge reduction effect, produced by the nonlinear Debye screening of high-Z charges occuring in strongly-coupled plasmas, is investigated. An analytic asymptotic expression is obtained for the charge reduction factor (fc) which determines the Debye-Hückel potential generated by a charged test particle. Its relevant parametric dependencies are analyzed and shown to predict a strong charge r...
