An Investigation into Virtual Objects Learning By using Haptic Interface for Visually Impaired Children
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is well known that visually impaired children have limited opportunities in learning new things compared to normal sighted children as visually impaired children do not have one of the important senses of human being. Computer simulated virtual reality environment can provide better opportunities for visually impaired children especially in learning the shapes of new objects. An application utilizes the force feedback technology i.e. haptic, together with an aid of audio has been developed in this research project. This allows visually impaired users to have a better learning environment. It assists visually impaired children in learning the shapes of different objects and also memorizing the shapes of different objects. In addition, the program will help users to train their memory by memorizing the names of different objects together with the shapes. This creates a new application in a novel research area which will help the visually impaired children in their learning process. Exploration of Interface Usability in a Haptic 3d Virtual Labyrinth for Visually Impaired Users
In this paper, an experimental study is presented on navigation in a 3D virtual environment by blind and visually impaired people with haptic and audio interaction. A simple 3D labyrinth is developed with haptic and audio interfaces to allow blind and visually impaired persons to access a three-dimensional Virtual Reality scene through senses of touch and hearing. The user must move from inside...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of Virtual Environments for Training of the Visually Impaired
This paper presents the virtual reality applications developed for the feasibility study tests of the EU funded IST project ENORASI. ENORASI aims at developing a highly interactive and extensible haptic VR training system that allows visually impaired people, especially those blind from birth, to study and interact with various virtual objects. A number of custom applications have been develope...
متن کاملThe Design and Evaluation of a Computer Game for the Blind in the GRAB Haptic Audio Virtual Environment
This paper describes the development and evaluation of a computer game for blind and visually impaired people using a new haptic audio virtual environment (HAVE). The GRAB HAVE consists of a new two-finger haptic interface and Haptic Geometric Modeller which enables people to locate and interact with 3D computer-generated objects using their sense of touch and audio feedback. A simple 3D search...
متن کامل. ASSETS 98 Paper : Haptic Virtual Reality for Blind Computer Users
This paper describes a series of studies involving a haptic device which can display virtual textures and 3-D objects. The device has potential for simulating real world objects and assisting in the navigation of virtual environments. Three experiments investigated: (a) whether previous results from experiments using real textures could be replicated using virtual textures; (b) whether particip...
متن کاملIdentification of Haptic Virtual Objects with Different Degrees of Complexity
Haptics used in natural contexts is much more efficient in identifying real objects than virtual objects via haptic displays. The aim of this study was to get some insight about the effects of object complexity on the identification of virtual objects varying in complexity on the basis of form properties. The virtual objects were synthetic human heads with varying number of face features. Fourt...
