چکیده

A tandem queueing system with a Markovian Arrival Process (MAP) useful in modeling a call center with Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is investigated. The first stage has a finite number of servers without buffer while the second stage of the tandem has a finite buffer and a finite number of servers. The service time at the first (second) stage has an exponential (phase type) distribution. A special approach for reducing the number of states of the stochastic process that describes the behavior of the system is used. The main performance measures are calculated. The Laplace–Stieltjes transform of the sojourn time distribution is derived. The numerical results are presented. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Robust design and control of call centers with flexible IVR systems

We consider the robust design and control of call center systems with flexible interactive voice response (IVR) systems. In a typical call center equipped with an IVR system, customers are handled first by the IVR system, which is a computerized system that often enables customers to self-serve. Those customers whose service cannot be handled by the IVR system are sent to the second stage to be...

Designing a call center with an IVR (Interactive Voice Response)

A call center is a service operation that caters to customer needs via the telephone. Call centers typically consist of agents that serve customers, telephone lines, an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) unit, and a switch that routes calls to agents. In this paper we study a Markovian model for a call center with an IVR. We calculate operational performance measures, such as the probability for ...

Queues with system disasters and impatient customers when system is down

Consider a system (e.g. a computer farm or a call center) operating as a M/M/c queue, where c = 1, or 1 < c < ∞, or c = ∞. The system as a whole suffers disastrous breakdowns, resulting in the loss of all running and waiting sessions. When the system is down and undergoing a repair process, newly arriving customers become impatient: each individual customer activates a random-duration timer. If...

Performance analysis of a telephone system with both patient and impatient customers

In this paper, the performance of a telephone system in which there are both patient and impatient customers is studied. Depending on the waiting time in the buuer, a customer may become impatient and therefore the call is incomplete. A impatient customer still consumes real processing time. The impact of impatient customers on the system is much more remarkable than people would expect. We for...

A Queuing Model of the N-design Multi-skill Call Center with Impatient Customers

This paper studies a queuing model of the N-design multi-skill call center. In this model, there are two types of customers and two server groups who have different skills. Group 1 consists of specialized servers who can only serve one type of customers, Group 2 consists of flexible servers who can serve both two types of customers. The customers waiting for the service in the queue may leave t...
