Delay and rate constrained transmission policies over wireless channels

چکیده
Abstract—In this paper, we study delay and rate-constrained transmission of bursty traffic over wireless channels. We characterize the minimum power requirements via bounds for both single user and multiuser downlink problems, using a class of randomized first-come first-serve policies. We show that larger tolerable delay leads to power reduction, even for single-user Gaussian channels; a source coding interpretation is offered for the result. Further, we show that traffic with max-delay constraints requires more power than the same traffic with average-delay constraints. Keywords— Traffic regulation, broadcast scheduling, wireless channels, randomized policies.

Continuous-time Optimal Rate Control for Delay Constrained Data Transmission
We consider optimal rate control for delay constrained data transmission, over time varying channels, with the objective of minimizing the transmission energy expenditure. Energy efficiency is achieved by spreading the data transmission over time to exploit the convexity of the power-rate functions and further, by opportunistically adapting the transmission rate to the channel variations. Our s...
متن کاملQuality-Driven Resource Allocation for Full-Duplex Delay-Constrained Wireless Video Transmissions
In this paper, wireless video transmission over fullduplex channels under total bandwidth and minimum required quality constraints is studied. In order to provide the desired performance levels to the end-users in real-time video transmissions, quality of service (QoS) requirements such as statistical delay constraints are also considered. Effective capacity (EC) is used as the throughput metri...
متن کاملAdaptive QoS control for real-time video communication over wireless channels
Robust transmission of real-time video over wireless channels is a challenging problem. This is because the bit error rate (BER) in wireless channels is very high and the bit errors could have devastating effects on the video presentation quality. This paper addresses this problem by introducing adaptive quality-of-service (QoS) control for real-time video communication over wireless channels. ...
متن کاملOptimal Power/delay Trade-offs in Wireless Communications – Small Delay Asymptotics
In this paper we consider the optimal trade-off between average transmission power and average queueing delay for a single user transmitting data over a wireless fading channel. In particular we study the behavior of this trade-off in the regime of asymptotically large power and small delay. Our focus is on channels which require infinite power to minimize the average delay. For such channels, ...
متن کاملPower and delay trade-offs in fading channels
Energy is a constrained resource in mobile wireless networks. In such networks, communication takes place over fading channels. By varying the transmission rate and power based on the current fading level, a user in a wireless network can more efficiently utilize the available energy. For a given average transmission rate, information theoretic arguments provide the optimal power allocation. Ho...
