چکیده
SIR,-Withdrawal symptoms following the cessation of long-term steroid therapy are well known. These include exacerbation of prior symptoms such as recurrence of arthritis and arthralgia in the rheumatoid patient, or fever, myalgia, hypotension, anorexia, nausea, lethargy, and desquamation of the skin. In severe cases, signs and symptoms of acute adrenal insufficiency may also occur. Over the past two years we have observed a new group of severe withdrawal symptoms in kidney-transplant recipients. High-dose methylprednisolone pulse therapy for treatment of refractory intestinal involvement caused by Henoch–Schönlein purpura: a case report
INTRODUCTION Henoch-Schönlein purpura is an immunoglobulin A-mediated, small vascular inflammatory disease that can be associated with palpable purpura, arthralgia, abdominal pain, or nephritis. The presence of purpura facilitates the diagnosis of Henoch-Schönlein purpura at the onset of associated symptoms, whereas the absence of purpura makes the diagnosis challenging. It is important to diag...

A 48- year- old man with no significant past medical history, was admitted to the emergency department after injury in a car accident. He suffered a multiple bone fracture with chief complaints of pain and shortness of breath. He was transfer...
متن کاملMethylprednisolone in multiple sclerosis: a comparison of oral with intravenous therapy at equivalent high dose.
A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial of intravenous methylprednisolone versus oral methylprednisolone at equivalent high dose was carried out on 35 patients with an acute relapse of multiple sclerosis (MS). After baseline evaluation each was randomly allocated to oral treatment and intravenous placebo or intravenous treatment and oral placebo, receiving 500 mg of methylprednisolon...

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute febrile multi-system vasculitis of unknown etiology. The diagnosis is based on clinical features. We describe a case of intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG)-resistant KD presenting with persistent fever and massive cervical lymphadenopathy associated with mild respiratory distress. The symptoms resolved after methylprednisolone pulse therapy. High-dose pulse ster...
متن کاملAcute myopathy secondary to oral steroid therapy in a 49-year-old man: a case report
INTRODUCTION Acute myopathy caused by oral corticosteroids is rare. We present a case of myopathy occurring after two doses of methylprednisolone. Typically, acute steroid myopathy occurs with therapy using intravenous corticosteroids at high doses. Acute myopathy developing very early in the course of treatment with oral corticosteroids has been reported only once in the literature. Corticoste...
