Enzymatic Reaction at the Single Molecule Level Moisés Santillán∗ Centro de Investigación y Estudios Avanzados del IPN, Unidad Monterrey, Parque de Investigación e Innovación Tecnológica, 66600 Apodaca NL, MÉXICO Abstract In this work we study, at the single molecular level, the thermodynamic and dynamic characteristics of an enzymatic reaction comprising a rate limiting step. We investigate how the stability of the enzyme-state stationary probability distribution, the reaction velocity, and its efficiency of energy conversion depend on the system parameters. We employ in this study a recently introduced formalism for performing a multiscale thermodynamic analysis in continuous-time discrete-state stochastic systems.

Mechanical unfolding and refolding may regulate the molecular elasticity of modular proteins with mechanical functions. The development of the atomic force microscopy (AFM) has recently enabled the dynamic measurement of these processes at the single-molecule level. Protein engineering techniques allow the construction of homomeric polyproteins for the precise analysis of the mechanical unfoldi...

The thermodynamic functions such as enthalpy, H°, Gibbs free energy, G°, and entropy, S°, of Arginine and Lysine amino acids were theoretically studied at different polar solvents by using ²Gaussian o3², software. First, the structural optimization of isolated Arginine and Lysine were done in the gas phase by applying the Density Functional Theory (B3LYP) level ...
