چکیده

3 INTELLECTUALS AND THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR On July, 18th, 1936, a faction of the Spanish Army rebelled against the government of the Republic. A Civil War began, which lasted until April 1st, 1939. The conflict quickly gained international dimensions. In intellectual environments, the Spanish RepublicÕs support for the anti-fascist fight was majority. In the United States of America some groups moved in favour of the Republic, including the League of American Writers, with authors such as Hemingway and Dos Passos, and the Motion Pictures Art Committee, with Joan Crawford, John Ford, King Vidor and Robert Montgomery among its members. A good example of solidarity from the academic world was the PsychologistsÕ Committee of the Medical Bureau to Aid Spanish Democracy, in which -among othersClark L. Hull, T.C. Schneirla and Gordon W. Allport participated. At the A.P.A.Õs Minneapolis Convention in 1937, Dr. Edward K. Barsky made a call for solidarity with the Spanish Republic (see Finison, 1977). Barsky was Chief of the American voluntary medical services in Spain and, after the war, headed the aid committee for Spanish Republican refugees.

Synergistic inhibition of hepatic glycogenolysis in the presence of insulin and a cAMP antagonist.

The effects of insulin on the ability of the specific intracellular cAMP-dependent protein kinase antagonist, the Rp diastereomer of adenosine cyclic 3',5'-phosphorothioate, to inhibit glycogenolysis induced by the Sp diastereomer was studied in hepatocytes isolated from fed rats. Addition of the cAMP agonist, (Sp)-cAMPS, to hepatocytes resulted in a concentration-dependent increase in glycogen...
