Experiences Using OWL in Military Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
The United States military is continuing to research and is beginning to employ OWL-related information representation technologies. The Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal (JEOD) Decision Support System (DSS) is using OWL to present relevant procedural information to warfighters. The United States Air Force (USAF) is experimenting with representing portions of the Foreign Clearance Guide (FCG) in OWL to support automated planning for transportation missions. The Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) is experimenting with representing Computer Generated Forces (CFG) behaviors in OWL. These efforts have yielded “lessons learned” that can support future implementations of OWL-related technologies.

Lived experiences of military nurses from war- a mini-review
Background and Aim: Military nurses have acquired valuable experiences from caring for patients in war zones. Analysis of these experiences can create valuable knowledge for health care providers. The purpose of this study is to explore and analyze the lived experiences of military nurses from the war extracted from published papers. Methods: In this mini-review, an extensive search was conduct...
متن کاملBuilding Applications and Tools for OWL - Experiences and Suggestions
The success of the Semantic Web will largely depend on whether W3C’s Web Ontology Language can reach broad acceptance and a critical mass of industry-strength applications. We have been exploiting the use of OWL with a particular focus on tool support for ontology authoring and on providing access to the Semantic Web for mobile applications. In the latter case our vision is to overlay the Seman...
متن کاملPutting OWL into Production at the European Bioinformatics Institute
The Experimental Factor Ontology (EFO) is an OWL based ontology of experimental variables used in a wide range of biomedical studies. EFO has been in use since 2007 and was the first OWL ontology to be used in production ready data services at the EBI. As the ontology content, application requirements and the OWL language have evolved over time, this has presented several challenges in how to d...
متن کاملSemantic Web Service discovery and information fusion using OWL-S and SPARQL formal specifications over NATO JC3IEDM and TIDE services
Present trends show that the number of services available for decision makers on the battlefield in networked C4ISR systems will increase dramatically over the next few years. Military communication systems The need to automatically discover and consume available information sources is necessarily to achieve information superiority in the area of conflict. The information sources could differ f...
متن کاملA View of OWL From the Field: Use-cases and Experiences
In this paper, we describe our experiences with Semantic Web applications from the domain of life sciences, text mining and software engineering. In these domains, the state-of-the-art is limited to the use of simple taxonomies. This is partly because a sufficient set of use cases has not yet been developed to demonstrate the value of using more expressive languages (such as OWL) to add value i...
