Sagittal and axial mobility of 1st ray in hallux valgus

چکیده
Introduction Hypermobility of the first ray is one causative factor in development and recurrence of Hallux valgus[1],[2],[3]. so treated as an important factor in hallux valgus. While most discussions of 1st ray instability refer to sagittal motion [4],[5], [6],[7]. Increased motion may also be present in the axial plan. However, there is no known way of measuring motion of axial plan. In this study, we assessed the axial plan mobility by means of measuring the difference between weight bearing IMA and nonweight bearing IMA from foot AP radiograph. This study investigated the difference between the axial motion of the first ray of the symptomatic hallux valgus patients group and that of the normal group.

Hallux valgus and first ray mobility. A prospective study.
BACKGROUND There have been few prospective studies that have documented the outcome of surgical treatment of hallux valgus deformities. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of operative treatment of hallux valgus with use of a proximal crescentic osteotomy and distal soft-tissue repair on the first metatarsophalangeal joint. METHODS All adult patients in whom moderate ...
متن کاملFootprint as an alternative to X-ray in hallux valgus angle measurement
Background: X- ray images provide accurate and reliable data in different foot pathologies. However, the accompanied complications will limit its use for epidemiological studies and research purposes, especially in children. Therefore, simple, accessible, and cost- effective methods such as footprint, with a good correlation with x-ray images, are needed to help diagnose different foot pa...
متن کاملRadiographic considerations of hallux valgus versus hallux rigidus.
BACKGROUND Metatarsus primus elevatus (MPE) has long been suggested as a primary causative factor in the pathogenesis of hallux rigidus (HR). The purpose of this investigation was to more clearly define this relationship by comparison of first ray position in patients with hallux rigidus, hallux valgus, and a control population with no known foot pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS Clinical and ...
متن کاملRotational Osteotomy for Hallux Valgus. A New Technique for Primary and Revision Cases
More than 200 different surgical techniques exist for hallux valgus (HV). Some of them are designed for mild, moderate, or severe deformities depending on their correction power. Nevertheless, they all correct only the coronal and/or sagittal plane deformity. Just a handful of them correct the known axial malrotation that exists in most HV cases. This malrotation is one possible factor that cou...
متن کاملComparison of 2D-3D Measurements of Hallux and First Ray Sagittal Motion in Patients With and Without Hallux Valgus.
BACKGROUND Clinicians base treatment decisions on measures of hallux and first ray motion in the management of first metatarsophalangeal joint disorders. Women account for a majority of the patients. This study assessed the reliability of a 2D approach for the measurements of sagittal motion, and compared the result to a Cardan (3D) angle criterion standard and evaluated how hallux valgus (buni...
